1970 hemi cuda engine and trans BS23 ROB 184367
« on: December 17, 2005 - 09:37:29 AM »
Hello all,
I had a guy email me about trying to find the cuda that goes to his engine and trans he has in a 34 ford. Here is his post on my website...I figured i would try here, i dont think he has.

Drive Train found

1970 HEMI 'CUDA   VIN BS23 ROB 184367

I have the 426 Hemi engine & 727 trans. from this vehicle matching numbers !
This 1970 'CUDA was in the San Francisco, Ca. area when new. The Hemi
engine and 727 trans. above were removed in or about '73 and installed in a
"Show Car", a '34 Ford. The above eng/trans is still in the '34 in top running
order. However it should be reunited with the 'CUDA!!

If you know the where abouts of this 'CUDA or any info on this vehicle please
call....Bruce at 541 474-0010

Thanks, Bruce Hertel

just email him or contact me. He would like to sell the drive line to the cars owner if the car is still alive!

thanks,
Jesse Lee

that is cool, some bad people don't care.  There was a guy at our local show (HPAC club show in KS) pulled up in a sick sounding 70 purple challenger, said he got a 426 in the car, and a guy in St.Louis has the original motor vand wants 250,000 for it, he said everytime he sees this guy he says " I still have your motor"!  a non numbers matching motor shouldn't matter to the gut in ST.Louis since the one he has doesn't match his car, so a correct date coded 426 built to his specs is a fair swap to me.

Ya see I would probably punch the guy in the mouth when he said that if it was me. :stomp: :dunno:

In a case like that, you would need to decide what the motor is really worth to make your car matching numbers and make a firm offer. The offer would have to be substantially more than the motor would be worth to someone else. Then just let him think about it.
Pissing the guy off would pretty much guarantee that you would never own it.
The only other option would be to find someone else that might have the leverage with this guy to buy the motor for you.

I would say that he will never get the motor back since it has been so long, so making the guy mad wouldn't matter.
I would have to agree with blown 70, I'd have to smack him in the mouth also.

The problem with making the guy mad is that it closes so many doors...possibly forever.
I believe in using a little diplomacy. If it were me, I would want that motor...bad.

You could always make up some book plates with his name on them, paste them is some cheap porno books and place them in the children's section at the local library.  He'll probably be willing to deal on the motor to scare up money for his legal fees.

I'm a little surprised at some of the replys to this.  The original post was about someone hoping to "reunite" a car owner with an  engine.  Nice thing to do.  But nowhere does it say he's doing it for the going rate for any old hemi.  If he owns nearly half the value of the reunited car why shouldn't he share in the wealth?  Maybe the car owner should sell to him at the "non-matching" price.

The follow-on posts make the other guy seem like a bad guy when he say's "the engine is still available".  Punching him out or trashing him because he expects to profit on a deal?  How many of you are willing to "sell back" your car for what you paid for it?  What if you found out its worth 5 times as much now?  But the original owner would like to be reunited also.  Car, Engine, and 1st owner!  Isn't that the "right thing to do".  Isn't that fair?  Shouldn't he have the option to get it back at his original sale price?

The engine owner's price may be a bit high, but without THAT engine the car is "just another Hemi-cuda, not matching".  If the car owner had the car AND engine, I bet he wouldn't sell it for the non-matching price "just to be nice".  I'm as passonate as most here about my mopars, and matching up cars sounds nice.  But the discussion reminds me of a quote from "North Dallas Forty" - "When I call it a game, you call it a business.  When I call it a business, you call it a game."

And this isn't  even a discussion post - its a classified.  Parties involved should make their own deals(no offense to the poster intended).
