Cragar SS & Unilug?'s

Okay guys if you take a look at the other thread I'm thinking about fixing up my Challenger. I was talking to woman who bought two sets of Unilug 15" Cragar Rims for her 69 Camaro Convertible and her 74 Chevrolet Caprice Convertible. She said at highway speeds she has a problem with vibration on those wheels using the same tires she had with some different rims but, she didn't have that problem with those rims. Anyone got any input on this matter? Also, has does everyone feel about Unilug Wheels?

I would avoid them. Had ETunilug  mags years ago, always had to retighten nuts.

I avoid unilugs whenever possible.

That's what I thought. She told me she didn't like them and was going to sell them probably. Anyways, at least I'm on a better path now hearing it from other folks.

I think you know the answer , if the tires are good & it picks upa vibration with the wheels , the wheels have to be the problem , get rid of them

I had unilugs that wobbled.  We fixed them by drilling out the spot where the lugnut rode large enough to insert a tool steel bushing.  This tightened up the lug hole again.  The wheel has to be drilled perfectly in order to do this.  I wouldn't really recommend doing it unless you really have the right machine shop tools.  Then there can still be safety issues.  Unless you really love the wheels I would stay away from doing this.  If you do it I still don't know if I would recommend driving the car at a high speed.  It would be easiest to run non-unilug wheels.  Just thought you might like to know the wobble can be fixed.

I had unilugs on my 68 Camaro and they were the biggest pain in the a$$ that I have ever had to work with.  It is almost impossible to get the correct torque on the nuts and also to get them centered correctly.  Stay away from them.
