    Holley Carb ID?

    Merry Christmas Everyone,

    While waiting for Santa, I thought I would sort through some of the "alleged" original stuff the previous owner had given me with my 71 Cuda 383 A/T with A/C.  I was wondering if anyone could ID this Holley carb for me and let me know if it could possibly be the original to the car.  The numbers I can read in various locations are  1185 LIST-6515 and 6R 4230B. He did give me the original intake also so if it is original I would like to reunite them again.  Any help would be appreciated. The build date of my car was 6-71.  Thanks,  Ed

    looks like an original 600 Holley carb , I do not have the books with the factory carb #s

    Thanks for your input. Maybe someone will have a numbers book that can ID this baby.  No need wasting money on rebuilding it if it isn't original.  Thanks again , Ed

    From what i can tell, your car should have a holley model R4668...4160 carb...thats 71 383 auto without fresh air package.

    That carb looks pretty similar to what i remember what they look like...but the #'s dont jibe. I had a carb similar to it....turned out it was a holley replacement carb. That # you have..R4230B, does not appear to be a factory mopar carb.

    I disagree , the carb clearly has the correct artm for the Mopar throttle pin , it probably is incorrect for your exact application but it is a factory Holley carb for a Mopar application

    Chryco.....back in the day Holley made replacement carbs specific to mopar applications. I did say that that carb looked to be similar to what the original mopar carbs looked like, and indeed the replacement carb i had also looked similar (correct throttle arm for mopar applications)

    That number he has on that carb does not show to be a Mopar carb part # in any book i have...and i have Mopar part books from 68 to 74. Also in the galen part books, that number does not show up. So I'd say i'm on pretty firm ground when i say it's not an original FACTORY Mopar carb.

    It is more than likely a holley Mopar specific replacement carb.

    Thanks guys for taking the time to dig into your history books.  I did check a lot of web resources but could not find anything with that number also.  I did send an email to Holley tech yesterday to see if they can ID it.  Still waiting for a reply.  Ed

    I just got an email from the tech people at Holley and they ID it as a Model 4160 600 cfm for a 1971 Chrysler 383 & 440 with Manual or Auto Trans.  So I am guessing that this could actually be the original one to the car. :woo:

    Thats pretty intresting...that # does not show up anywhere.......cool though it looks like it's worth rebuilding!

    Hemi,

    Maybe it was a super secret Plymouth project that only my car has which makes it extremely rare.  lol   Anyway, next question...Holley has a rebuilt and replating service that I was thinking about using.  Anyone had any experience with their work?

    for about $20 you can get a full rebuild gasket kit & some spray cleaner in a can , spray out all the small passages & run a fine wrie into them if you think they are blocked , I like the Ture Holley Or Barry Grant carb kits better than the Standard kits , Standard kits use terrible quality Power valves & neddle & seat assys

    model R-4369A (cas)   or r-4218a  (ecs)  equipped with  hot idle compensator valve was used on 383's with auto & ac

    I appreciate the advice but to be honest I am not that technically skilled and my eyesight is  not what they used to be.  I can imagine all the little parts that would dissappear. I think I would rather leave that to the professionals. What the heck...its only money right...  Thanks, Ed
