    Saw this and thought it was sad. 

    Not sure how many of you are interested in the Chysler Turbine cars of the 60s.  I wasn't too interested at first but read some of the history and thought it was interesting.  See  http://www.turbinecar.com/top.swf  and  http://www.allpar.com/mopar/turbine-photos.html

    This was also the race car in the old movie "The Lively Set" with James Darren.



    Anyhows, I guess to comply with customs laws, the majority of 55 cars were destroyed, taken apart and crushed in 1967 at an airport scrapyard near Detroit.  Here's a video clip:

    Hmph! I didn't know they actually made that many of those, I thought it was under 10. Thats sad that they actually destroyed as many as they did. :crying:

    I think it was Popular Hotrodding that did a story just recently on the only fully functioning turbine car today. I just skimmed though & haven't gotten back to it.

    Yeah, aside from being technologically advanced, it was sort of just like another family car.  Was designed by the guy who did the Thunderbird.   

    Although it only had 130hp it had something like 425ft/lb of torque from something like 0 RPM.  Supposedly it was slow off the line.

    I saw a turbine car a few years back at the Peterson out in CA. Sharp looking car... pity that they destroyed them :swear:

    A shame really, maybe it's technology could become current again burning alternative fuels.
