Should I buy this motor?
« on: December 25, 2005 - 08:30:06 PM »
High everyone It has been a long time since I have written anything in here. I dont know if anyone remembers me, but I am the guy that asked back in July if I should pay 1,300 dollars for a 70 barracuda that I found out in a field. I had a lot of responses to go ahead and buy so I did. I am glad I did, because I really like the car now. I am going to start finding all the missing parts for it. There really isnt anything missing, just a front bumper, the passenger window and the grill. I started the car a while back and it runs perfect. It sounds really good. I didnt think it would even start after 10 years out in a field. Well I have a found a 340 motor with the factory 3 carb set up on it. The motor is sitting in a guys barn. It has the air cleaner and all the hoses and carb linkage. The owner says that it has a spun bearing or something like that. He is asking 1500 for the motor and transmission. Is that to much money for this motor? I think it would look neat in the barracuda. Well once again thanks and I hope to get a response. I have sent some pics of my 1300 dollor barrracuda.

Nice find and price too, thats a gran coupe as well.WHat motor does it have in it now?Doesnt sound too bad on the price for the 340-6 but i would try and get it for less, offer him 1000 cash under his nose.Check the casting numbers on the 340-6,if it says 340TA jump on iy those are going for 5k on epay without the carbs. What trans comes with the 340?

I'd like the 6-pack set up off it for my car if you buy the motor and are interested in selling.

I think the motor would be a good price if it is a 340 TA motor with intake, carbs, and trans. Keeep us posted on what you end up doing.

If it does turn out to be an original T/A block please let me know what the VIN on it is and I can check my files and see if the car it matches still exists.

It is a steal at that price.  :money:

T/Ake care,

Welcome back! I do remember you and your great deal on the Barracuda.  For sure, check to see if it says 340TA on it! Who know, you might get really lucky twice!
