    We both cant be right,LOL.So your is numbers matching also?Have you pulled the heads off to see if its standard bore?Mine is so i know its never been rebuilt and the color changed,no one in their right mind would pull and engine just to change the color.Wonder if they came both ways?Who knows but i am sure there are exceptions to the rule.FYI I called in to YO one time when looking at buying a built 340,they told me the head castings had one head with 202 and the other didnt,Guess what,they were wrong.

    I just spoke with Frank Badalson of Roger Gibson Auto Restoration about this very issue this evening.
    He says that no matter what trim an E-body is...ie R/T, Cuda, Barracuda, Challenger, Grand Coupe...whatever, that if it's an "N" code 383 in the VIN, the engine should be orange...AC doesn't matter.  He says the only torquoise 383 in an E-body would be a 2 barrel.  That jives with every original car I have seen also.
    We had a discussion about this on the board six months ago,everyone of the Ol timers here said the opposite.QUestion?How do you explain my 383-4/330hp in My Numbers matching GC standard bore never been rebuilt and i talked to the guy that bought it new in 1970?,Hmm Hmm Hmm?LOL :dogpile:

     Yes mine is also Numbers matching. 53K miles I am the third owner and I have talked with both priory owners and neither one pulled the engine at any time or did the repaint it. Maybe it was an LA thing.lol
    Another source that can be used even though it has some mistakes is the Paul Herd book. It says " Most 1970-1971 383 four-barrels and 440s were painted Hemi Orange,although some with the Shaker Hood option were painted turquoise. All 383 two-barrels were painted turquoise" Maybe the key word in the quote is  Most.

    Yes I think there are mistakes but my mind is being refreshed brom the last time this came up.I think it depends on the carb on the car,mine is a carter carb which shouldnt be since they came with a/c only and then the engine would be turquios,it did have dealer installed a/c though,the holly engine was orange.Here's a quote from JS27NOB the last time this came up,man its been a year!

    K, lets get away from the HP numbers. There were only 2 383's available in 1970, a 2bbl or a 4bbl. 4bbl was the N code Hp 383. it was 330hp or 335hp with a M.T.

    The only way it should have been Blue from original is if it had a carter 4BBL with the A/C. Are you sure the car was never apart anywhere in it's long life? Might be one of those few exception stories.

    Yes, I think the key word in this is "most".....wouldn't be Mopar if there weren't some exceptions out there......
    assuming I don't find a build sheet, the evidence is pointing to the Carter AVS 4734S as the correct carb for my car.
    Now.....to find one!

    my opinion is never say never , the assembly line will not stop if the exact correct piece is not sitting there waiting to be put in, so anything is possible  + you will see differences in LA cars & Hamtramk cars , , you can go crazy Proving things were done a given way & you will generally find a car to prove it wrong
