Got My Insurance; Going with JC Taylor
« on: January 02, 2006 - 09:30:13 AM »
Well, after checking out insurance for my 71 Challenger for a 25 year old with a clean driving record and hopefully it will stay that way Hagerty is charging me $693 a year on a estimated $22,000 value for my car. Do you folks thinks that a little high? Grundy wants an estimated $310 for it. Hmmm, I don't know. Decisions, Decisions. But I hear Hagerty is better. Opinions?

if it's an original car that is garaged, JC Taylor would be less than $200.00/year for full coverage. I've used 'em since 1982....

We have Grundy because Haggerty wouldn't insure us because my 19 year old son had a speeding ticket 2 years ago.  They said since he's still officially living in our house (he's off at college now), that he could legally drive the car.  We told them we would sign a waiver saying that he would never drive the car...nope, they wouldn't do it.  So Grundy gladly accepted us for 320 a year for $50K of coverage.  I have heard some stories about Grundy being really slow to make good on claims, but what else could we do?

I have never heard of Taylor.  Next year when its time to renew I'll give them a call. Thanks.

JC Taylor has been around forever. They may have started the whole antique auto insurance sector.

When I had my challenger running I paid around 135 a year for 15k coverage and was limited to 3,000 miles a year (was 16 at the time), but in all fairness the car was in my dad's name but the insurance company was aware that I was the driver. My dad now pays 235 a year for 26k coverage on his challenger and I am still allowed to drive it. I think our rates are a lot cheaper than most because we only deal with that insurance company. Also, I have never had a ticket and the rest of the family averages one every 10 years......

I went with Grundy too.  I've heard good and bad with several of these insurers.  The beast is insured for 79K and it is $543.00 per year.  Clean driving reord.  I haven't had to file a claim yet-(hopefully I won't).  If I do, I'll let ya'll know how it was handled.    :cooldancing:  ...............Oldschool

I'm with Grundy too. The thing I like is my premium has been the same for 5 years now(when I bought my car)... unlike the insurance on my daily driver.  :stomp: :stomp: :stomp:

 Still sounds a little high. is yours modified or ?
I just got $42K coverage for $300+ a month ago. Maybe because it's a second vehicle insured with them and I can only drive one at a time.

Yes it is a modified because it doesn't have the numbers matching engine and a lot of R/T parts.

Did they say non numbers engine made a difference? Usually they just want to know if the H.P. has been changed..i.e. modified hot rods/pro street cars vs. a stock type car.
Is there any insurance experts out there ?

That sounds a little high but it's probably your age comming into play. I have Hagerty and they have been great so far. Haven't had to file any claims.  Can't say that for Grundy. It took them 2 months just to send verification of an address change. I'd hate to see how long it would take them to respond if I needed to file a claim. A freind of mine hit a deer a few years back and Hagerty took care of him within a week or two. Needless to say I swithched to Hagerty right after that and will never use Grundy again.
