    Sprung a leak!!

     I've had my rear interior side panels out because I was trying to strip off all the paint off them. The other day When driving when it was raining really hard, I heard a splashing sound coming from the back seat. So I looked around and noticed the rear side panel on the drivers side was full of water almost all the way up to the edge.
     Questions:
    1. Is the rear window supposed to have a gap right at the bottom rear where it comes to a point? I can see my fingertip between the glass and the metal when I put my finger on the inside and look on the outside. Both rear side windows are like this.

    2. Is there a drain at the bottom of these side panels that may be plugged the passanger side drips too but never fills up?

    3. Where is the best place to get all new window seals, and the trim that scapes against the windows. I need to get this car water tight before I put my new carpet in.

    I had the same problem with my Chally I do not know if there is a drain there cause I put a path panel at the bottom so I ended up just drilling an 1/8 hole in the bottom of the dog leg underneth it drains well and does not hold water anymore :woo:

    Hmmm..  I never looked but I would assume there would be a drain of some sort to let water out as there isn't a water tight seal between the glass and the window seal.  Sort of like the front doors have 2 drains (I think!) to let water out.  Make sure you locate these drains and clear them out.  My driver's door (I know we're talking rear panel area.) started rusting because a mouse plugged the drain holes!  Dig 'em out if you can find them!

    as my car has been getting the egine worked on for who knows how long i havent had the time to look er over yet

    the window and door dont make a water tight seal?

    why not, should they?

    if they dont is there a way to make them water tight?

     Yea, I guess I'll have to dig around and see if there's a drain or two.
     It looks like it overflowed, because my carpet on the drivers side is soaking wet after that very heavy rain fall we had the other night. I'm just glad I didn't put in my new carpet yet.

    Never seen 'em, but logic says there would have to be drain holes 'cuz the water is definitely gonna go in there ! And yours must be really plugged to hold that much H2O !

    Yea, if my car fills up much more, I'll need to start driving to work in my swim trunks or maybe scuba gear LOL
     I stuck a screwdriver down the side as far as it would reach and pulled out 34 years worth of gunk!  :eek4: so I guess I found the problem.

     Problem is still there, my interior is flooded again. I made sure all the drains under the car that go from the front corner of the door all the way back to the rear tire are unplugged yet the rear panel where the rear window mech is still holds water. I tried digging around in there with a hack saw blade because it's flexable and goes under the lip father yet I just get a muddy drip out of the last rear drain. So there has to be another one that I just cant find. This really sucks, I don't want to add a hole if at all possible.
     Anyone got any ideas, or pics of a Challenger with the rear quarter cut off, maybe I'll see something.

    It just so happens I was cleaning under my '73 Chally last weekend & there are several drain holes that are located at the point the rocker panel is welded to the floor pans. They are not obvious, as they appear to be large wrinkles on the rocker panel side. I blasted each with a pressure washer. They all connect to a common area that runs from in front of the rear wheel housing to just behind the front fender.  :bigshades:

     Yea those are the drain holes I was talking about too. I can put a long screwdriver up all of those. I think there is an internal drain hole that goes from inside where the rear window brackets are located to the drains under the door and I think that's where the problem is. My passenger side is all rusted out right in that same area as the drivers side, so it looks like a pretty common problem area.

    It's really gotta be frustrating with this unusual record breaking F*%^!*g RAIN !

    Yea, all this rain is getting old and I'd like to get a few things done on the Challenger before summer gets here.

    If you are still looking for window trim I'd recommend YearOne. I bought the front/rear kit, don't remember the price. Even if you don't need the trim for the front windows now at least you'll have them if you ever do need them. The rubber squeegy part contacts the window nicely and would do you right keeping the water out.
