Tire wall pick
« on: January 04, 2006 - 04:42:16 PM »
With the screensaver up and running and having a chance to see a different car every7 seconds or so it has made me think. When my car is ready do I want tires with
Raised white letters
Black wall
  Redline
or White walls

I really like the look of a solid black tire but the raised white letters can look reallly good.
What do you think?

:working: Depends on what your goal is with your car.  If your into full restoration then put the correct tires on the car that came with it originally.  I prefer black wall because it lets the eye focus on the car.   The details that make the car special are more striking to me with black wall tires.  Plus it says to me that these tires are expendable and could be melted off at any minute if the owner choses.

I prefer the raised white letters on mine, but some cars I've seen in here still look better with blackwalls.

True what wiging19 said.  It does let you focus on the car a bit more.  For example if you look at EVIL72's car in his sig, then imagine it with black walls, it does give more focus on the car itself.  Sorta more modern and streamline looking.

But IMO I always liked the raised white letters on 14"/15" rims (E-bodies anyway).  It looks more period correct IMO.  The white letters spinning around when you're moving look cool.  17" and up rims look better in blackwall.  I like redlines on the pre '71 B-bodies with stock rims.

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

I really like the RWL as many of these cars came with them when they were new. I would love to see soem of the RWL tires have lettering that is about the size they put on the tires back when these cars were new.
