426 Hemi model pics
« on: January 04, 2006 - 11:45:08 PM »
As some of you may recall, I got a 426 Hemi model for Christmas. This is a 1/8th scale model so it is pretty big. I must've spent close to 30 hours building it. Now I'm not a model builder by nature. In fact, it's been close to 35 years since I last built models. So when I built this, I must have figured out every other way to put it together except the right way.  :pullinghair:  My GF was real patient with me as I took up the dining table putting it together. If anybody is going to decide to build one of these, I know the idiocyncracies of this model now to help you aviod potential doom and frustration. This model comes with what is supposed to be the sound of a Hemi rumbling. But it sounds more like a garbage disposal heading for the dump.

Well it does have all the inner moving parts. But I'm afraid it I tried to start it using regular gas it would turn into a napalm Hemi.  :lol2:

That looks pretty Good TC! Now you need a 1/8 scale E-body to put it in!

Wow!  Looks awesome!

Question though:  are you supposed to paint the block and heads?  How do you see the moving internal parts?

If its 1/8 scale, you might be able to display it in a 1/6 scale radio control car (not sure if there is any Mopar stuff, mostly rice) or 1/8 scale model car.  It would look cool in an old T bucket or something so you can see the whole engine.  Very nice work!

I built the Lincoln Mint Hemi. It is the same mold and the process was more than trying.

I thought about leaving it clear but it reminded me of a science fair project. So I decided to paint it. I used a 2 stage aerosol laquer that I bought from the hobby store. Had to drive 30 miles to get the right paint for it. But it was worth it. The model looks like POR 15 on it now.

:iagree:  Yes, it does look like a science fair project!  I have an old "visible V8" from about maybe 15-20 years ago and it's in clear with no paint and it does look better painted.  Hmmm.....maybe paint only one side of the engine?  I might try that with the old model if I have time....
