how to make a clone T/A
« on: January 08, 2006 - 03:26:40 PM »
Hello
I"m curious if you have to do anything special to make a clone 70 or 71 t/a challenger? I know it needs a different stripe and the front spoiler and the T/a hood but does the ta fit a normal hood and what else was specail about ta?

the hood should fit no problem, you definately need a 6 pack under it though.

You will need the side exhaust with the correct mufflers, the T/A hood, a 6-pak intake and carbs, front and rear sway bars, a rallye dash, side stripes, and front and rear spoilers.....there may be more but I can't think of it.

Thanks alot I didn't know you need a rear antenna and the ralle dash. Woud the front and rear sway bars have to be fab. or would they fit on to a normal challenger and are all T/As standard or can they be an auto or a slap stick?
thank again

They used the same sway bars, althought the front bar was larger than the standard bar.  Early challengers may or may not have the location dimples on the rear frame.  4 speed or automatic, with or without console.  Rallye dash was optional.

I have a 73 clone T/A.  it is how far you want it to be correct.  Mine has a bumble bee stripe, a go wing and not the correct taillights or grill, and no rear antenna.  I like it just the same though.

The rallye gauges were an option on T/As, most of them to not have them.

Front spoilers were also optional on T/As.

It was not mentioned yet, but the fast ratio steering was also optional on T/As.

The front and rear sway bars are bolt ons, but you will need the brackets for the rear sway bar and the front control arms need the provision for the sway bar there.

It depends on how far you want to go too, most T/A cloners seem happy enough just adding the stripes, hood, exhaust and spoiler.

If you want to go farther add the front and rear torque boxes too, as well as 15 inch wheels, power disc brakes with 11" rear drums, either a 3:55 or 3: 91 suregrip, space saver spare, correct air claener tub and base and so on. It gets expensive real fast.

T/As came with automatics on the console, automatics on the floor and four speeds with and without console.

If you want to clone a T/A with no antenna at all, opt for "radio delete".

T/Ake care,
Barry

A few other details too...

T/As all had the outside mirror(s) painted body color, and only the two T/A pilot cars had wheel lip moldings. You would also need the flip top cas cap.

If I think of anything else I will add it....

T/Ake care,
Barry
