you recall correct...somewhat.  There was alot of controversy regarding this car for a while, and A LOT of misunderstandings.  As I say, I personally know both the owner, and the restorer, and I can give you the word of a total stranger on an internet chat forum, that this car IS for real.  

As for MM, they didn't so much print a retraction, as someone from out West wrote in with a few things to say, but his word could not be verified as fact, so MM simply removed themselves from the situation, indicating thatthere MAY be a problem with the authenticity.  They didn't so much say if it was or wasn't authentic, but there was questionable statements to the contrary.

Since then, it has been verified that the car is the real deal, but naturally, there hasn't been anything printed about THAT.

Kinda like when someone gets arrested for a crime, it's front page news, but when exhonerrated for the crime he didn't commit, the story gets buried on page 50.

The owner knows what he has, and that's good enuff for him, but I feel bad for the negative publicity that was brought to him as a result of some jag-off in Saskatchewan with a grudge and a chip on his shoulder.

Im glad that the car turned out to be real.  Im a huge fan of this car!!!  I love the Cuda Convert and at one time was hell bent on owning one.  Since then the prices of resto converts has trippled and I can no longer set a realilistic goal of owning one.  Im gald to know that someone has this awesome car and knows the history of it!!!

Amen!  I, too, am an adamant lover of the '71 Cuda'vert, long before Nash Bridges came along and jacked up the prices!

I was hoping to own one one day, but have accepted that it'll never happen, and will be happy to put whatever meager scrapings I can gather, into the Challenger.  I guess I can't complain, it's a one-of-a-kind all fibreglass Chally with a 440/727 drivetrain.  I'm sure there are worse consolations.

Hi , me again.
I do have some 1 st hand knowledge of the pilot car( BS27N1B100005 ) I hope its the same car in question.
It was around 1993-1994 ???? , I say an add for a 1971 BARRACUDA convertible in a local buy and sell.
At the time I was already waist deep in e-bodies and didn,t need another but when I called he informed me it was some kind of very low v i n number pilot car,I was there the next day...
This car was trashed( and I mean trashed ) 
But he was right ,it was a very low vin number he showed me the fender tag and the B-sheet ( which I have a copy of somewhere around here..the tag and the sheet matched the body numbers-100  % .

Heres the kicker  the V I N number is -  BH27L1B100005 

It was always blue with blue guts -383-2 bbl car.  Heres something else weird though- it did come with white billboard stripe( I guess being a promo car they gave it a little extra apearance ) to help sell the 71 ragtops.
It also came optioned with the show car buffing .  It was coded for this.

The car was if I'm not mistaken sold new in western Canada..
That is pretty weird though as I have found alot of 71 s in Ontario with very low V I N s.

When that mag artical came out I thought that just can't be and spent most of the night trying to find the B-sheet ,I knew something couldn't be right and sure enough.

So thats my story,,,it is true .    take care       426

Hi Cuda guy...The bottom line is the car is bogus......

The V I N  ## is   BH27L1B100005 .    It is a 383-2 bbl car,,   I wouldn,t put my neck on the line if I didn,t know for sure .   100 % sure.

The car in its original state would be worth a small fortune these days, I don,t think I'd touch it now...
A barracuda coded for Bill Board stripes and coded for the show car finish,,   very rare.
