Were hood pins standard on R/T, were they an option or were they just a cool looking aftermarket thing?

yes there are proper kits available Year One probably has them , not sure who makes them though

do yoursellf a favor and get the stainless stuff. The chrome sets seem to always rust up.

One thing you need to remember about this era in chrysler history.  Everything was an option and could be put on most any car.  Some people knew that and some dealers knew that and ordered some cars dressed and some not.  Same went for the customers.  Dealers also added some things when they got them just as they do somethings today.

The Stainless pins are the best and last the longest.  There are several sources you will just have to search them out.

You may want to consider the hood pins that have the flip-over ring lock for the pin instead of the lanyard. Moroso & Mr. Gasket makes some, but I don't know if they're chrome or S/S.  If you have a painted leading edge on the hood, the lanyard rubs.  The self-adhesive clear plastic that they use to protect against rock chips works well as a scuff guard.
