scratches
« on: January 09, 2006 - 05:57:15 PM »
I am in the process of painting my engine bay and I have a couple of ?`s   I used 50 grit sandpaper to get rid of some flaking paint and got a little excited and sanded alot of the engine bay with it. Will some of the scratches show up if I primer over it. Or do I have to sand the sratches away.

Resand with 180 and the reprimer with a high build urothane primer, then 320 and wetsand with 400, and primer seal. If you are using laquer primer then 400 grit after 180 and recoat with laquer primer and you should be OK.

After you are satisfied that all repairs are done, wet sand with 400 grit. pre wipe, tac and apply Primer sealer before basecoating. This will ensure a smooth surface. Primer sealer will flow into any light srates and fill them in and insure any contaminate from causing reaction with your top coat. This will be very beneficial with any metalic colors.
