'nother 70 Challenger!
« on: January 12, 2006 - 06:03:06 PM »
Hello. Was lead to this forum by my brother-in-law who came across it in "Automobile."  Anyway, have this Yellow, 340/4sp Challenger which I bought new while in pilot training.  Have kept it all these years, or what is left of it, with the intent of rebuilding one of these days.  These days are approaching now that most of the kids are out of school.  Make a street freak out of it or restore is the question.  Having fessed up to that, need to know everything; where to find body/chassis parts, misc pieces, documents and manuals, details, etc.  Have the origina shop manual which I bought at the time I got the car.

Seems like I should go back through ages of old photos to find original pics.

All help will be appreciated.

BJ

DEFINITELY not as nice as it might sound!  Car sat outside many years, so is well ventilated!  Lots of metal work ahead.

Welcome to the site, glad you are going to restore your car.  There are a lot of freindly helpful people here.  Look in the "parts for sale" threads, you might find some things you need, if not, just ask.  We would love to see pics of your car, both old ones and the way it looks now.

Welcome to the board, BJ!  Sounds like a nice project.  340, 4 speed, 70 Challenger...how could you go wrong!!  When you find those pics, post them up!  We love to watch project cars go from ugly to beautiful, no matter how long it takes.

Glad you found us!

Sounds like a sweet car!!  First thing I would do is strip the car down and take it to the media blaster so I could see what is still metal and what isn't!!  Then go from there!!        :working:

BJ,

Welcome to the board.  Looking forward to seeing picture.  Yours can't be any worse than mine.  I think mine might be the same color Top Bananna Yellow (FY1), so don't be afraid to drop me a line.

Well, I don't know about that FY1443433.  If nothing else, it is a close tie as to condition!  Yes, Top Banana.

Planphun,

I purchased it from my brother about 12 months ago I'll need a lot of assistance since I am a "B" body person and somewhat unfamiliar with "E" bodies.  I have the fender tag but no build sheet.  It has some unusal options that I have noticed, ie: 4spd w/air and 6 way manual seat.  Since receiving it I have been able collect most of the parts required for assembly but I also own a 71 Superbee that I drive atleast once a month.

Welcome to the site, Planephun!  It's good that you kept the car all this time and have decided to restore it now.  As for your questions, I'd suggest just posting all of your questions in the different areas with what build up you plan on going with.  (IE: correctly restored, resto-modified, or extremely modified.)    For now, a couple of places to check out for now would be www.manciniracing.com for rebuilding the front suspension, www.espo.com for the rear springs (MP springs aren't the greatest, but they do make great torsion bars still.), and www.legendaryautointeriors.com for vinyl dye, seat covers, interior panels, etc.
