Personalized "Vanity" plates - yay or nay?
« on: January 12, 2006 - 11:58:42 PM »
What do you think?  Is having a plate like CC CUDA or CC 70 RT too fruity to be seen in public with?  Believe it or not, I can get all my cars to have "CC" plates (my initials)

CC CUDA
CC 70 RT
CC SRT8
CC 6PAK

Should I order 'em up, or will I look like a total fruit-bat?

Alternatively, how do you guys feel about funny ones, like MS VADER or YESITDO for the black Magnum SRT8, or NERVUS (remember Ferris Bueller?) or KLONED for the hemicuda ragtop clone?  Foo-foo, or funny?

I say go for it!!!  You don't call you kids "[FGG4598]" so why call your car that????  :bigshades:

The only reason I went with a "stock" plate is because in New Zealand we changed from black/white lettering to the more visible white/black lettering. They made this change around the mid-late 80's.
So, by keeping the old style plate people are going to click that this is no eBay import, or clone built in 2003 with a plate saying [RT MOPA] or something. Just lets them know this car has been here for a while and it's most likely not a clone but the real McCoy.  I still own but haven't made [1970 RT] but I won't be using it.

My 2c.

Cheers,

I think it's a great idea. I'm trying to figure out what to get on my Tora-Red 70 Cuda plates and I may have to give this some thought.

NZ btw no that I've stopped laughing!

We have a similar thing in California, "blue plates" and "black plates".  Until sometime in calendar year 1970, CA plates were black with yellow lettering (how cool is that?), at which point they switched to bright navy-ish blue with yellow letters (less cool but still better than todays white plates...)

And, don't quote me on this, but supposedly there is a way to scam and backdate yourself into black plates, but it may be an "antique" plate or something, and I'm still looking into it

Although if you can obtain them somehow without having the car continuously registered, then the 'value' of an 'original black plate CA car' isn't what it used to be....  I don't imagine black vanity plates are kosher though!

I see, interesting.... :grinyes: Black with yellow sounds cool, like DB Draught beer.
You can see the plate in my avatar (Jeep) is the new style and Lucy has the old style (signature).

I voted for [CC CUDA] by the way. I think you should stick with what you've been doing with the initials.
To the point and not overboard IMO is what that plate represents.

Cheers,
Carl

I did think of another great idea, which is way more subtle...

Charger plate = XS29UOG (lets the smart ones know it's real)
Cuda plate = BH27GOB (lets the smart ones know it's a clone)
Chally plate = JH27GOG (another clone)
Magnum plate = whatever the VIN's first seven are....

Subtle, looks like a normal plate to the unititiated, but speaks volumes to those in the know....  and probably gets more respect than CC CUDA and CC 70 RT would...

Thoughts?

Yeah, not bad....but what does it have to do with you?  :dunno:
It's the car itself where as CC CUDA is you AND the car.

I still like CC CUDA, but go with what you feel best mate.

It doesn't look too bad actually.... :naughty:
Are those plates (including CC CUDA) available? Like, no one else has got them already?

I still like CC CUDA, infact it must be fate! CCC for Cuda-Challenger.com & CCC for CC CUDA!

Which don't look too bad, the VIN ones or the CC ones?  To answer your question, the CC ones aren't available any more!

It did seem odd that all four were available, right?  So I snapped them up for $41 each.  Monogrammed Mopars!

But now I am suffering from buyers remorse and reckon that I might appear a bit of a wanker.  The VIN plates are starting to grow on me, and no, nobody has taken the exact ones I need.  (yet)  (gulp)

If I feel too embarrassed when I put the nameplates on, I can always take them off, and revert to the VIN plan, hanging the CC plates on the garage wall....  I don't imagine there are too many guys in California with St. Louis-built 318 verts that want to advertise that fact on the plates, so BH27G0B is probably safe for a while!

Although that is what appeals to me about that plan, for anyone who goes, 'holy crap is that a real hemicuda vert?' or 'who's he trying to fool with that clone?' the plates are putting it right out there, but way cooler than saying "REAL RT" or "A CLONE" (both of which are available...)  I can't believe everybody doesn't do the VIN thing, when I thought of it I was, like, duh!  Obvious!
