I got the carbs on my 6 pack challenger rebuilt and running good and found the timing offwhen I turned the bolt to loosen the dist(while engine was running) slipped and retaded it enough to shut the engine off, when I went to restart it the fuseable link went up in smoke, lucky for me thats all that went. after taking it apart it looks like it was corroded at tha 10 guage wire to the ign. switch. at least its an easy fix.

A resto is full of backward steps!  Don't let it get to ya....just keep moving forward as much as possible so Mr. Murphy doesn't get a foothold.  It could have been worse!

I have run into many backward steps restoring both my Challenger RT and Cuda mostly by myself in a 2 car garage. You just have to take a step back yourself and look at whats going on and move to something else somtimes and then come back to what took the step backwards. This has worked for me many times.

 :banghead: Know all about that "backsteping", the Charger and Chally were a piece of cake, but then again when I got them they were all in one piece as in assembled, ya know like...........complete! The 72 RR (clone) was a rolling shell, and it didn't have the dash in it (it was in a box) nor was the sterring column obviously in place. The rest of the "parts" ( what was actually there) were in bags, baggies, boxes, and just plain laying loose in the car. Now, talk about backstepping, hell at times I felt like I was moon walking, but I can't do that either. Just have patience, a helping wife (or girlfriend) who will put up with excessive cussin, and a steady supply of cold brews for that  :pullinghair: needed break. But she was running last October (after three years), took her for a couple short rides and put her in the "barn",..........smelled gas fumes, very strong? Guess what, the fuel line connector going into the middle carb was very much leaking even though the ferrell connector seemed significantly tight, here the connecting fitting is loose and even seems stripped, how could that have hapened? "Another step in that reverse direction", but hey, it's fun to work on them, it makes the neighbors beleive I know what I'm doing, I wonder?............... :roflsmiley:

Something must have shorted out to take out that fusible link. Make sure you check out all your circuits for a short.

My fuseable link went up in smoke for  me on my Charger when I started her up. It was a short circuit in the steering colum. the plastic had worn of the mian power to the ignition. Everyting died on the car. I had no power at all. but thanks to the fuseable link noting else burned of, except the fuseable link of cause   :thumbsup:

I found the cause of the fuseable link going up in smoke, it was just a loose and corroded connection where the fusebale link connects to the 10 guage wire to the ignition switch. replaced it with a 10 guage wire with a 15 amp blade fuse, tested for shorts and battery draw when off and have nothing. engine starts much eaiser than when I got it back.
Now I can start cleaning it.

Be careful, only thing that will take out a fuse link is too much current, not a poor connection that won't flow current.
