Afternoon fun in the Garage
« on: January 15, 2006 - 04:21:13 PM »
I had a little fun with the Beast engine today.   :woohoo:  There was a valve cover gasket leaking pretty bad.  I ordered a gasket set and it took several days to get it.   :swear:  Anyway, I decided that today was the day to make the repair.  I also checked/adjusted the valves while I had the covers off.  Only 5-6 that needed anything at all, and they were very minor adjustments.  Took a few pics while I had it apart.  The first pic is what is under those mysterious elephant valve covers.  The second pic is the culprit gasket.  The third pic is the covers and new gaskets waiting for me to eat and re-install them.  All in all, it was pretty cool to get the old knuckles dirty on the Beast.   :cooldancing:   .......................Oldschool

Looks good, don't worry about the blue smoke when you re-fire it either. Oil always runs into the cyl's with the spark plug tubes removed.

That's my 2 wheeled toy. 2001 BMW K1200LT-C. Bought it new, but I haven't ridden it NEAR as much as I want to.  :crying:  I have 42 more hours to work and then I will be retired.   :woohoo:  Should have plenty of time then.  If 2 toys doesn't work out, the Beemer will be for sale in the spring.   :cooldancing:  ..................Oldschool

Thanks for the reminder JS.     This my first Hemi in many years, but it is my 9th overall.  I used to have 7 at one time.  All street hemi's but 1. It was an 65 A-990 car--426 race hemi.   :burnout:    They've always been in my blood, just had to get a little chore out of the way before I could return to em---raising the kids.  I'm glad to be back!    :cooldancing:  ...................Oldschool

Hemi 71---nice ride you have there by the way!
The answer to your first question is yes. I can use the stock Hemi gaskets.  The reason it took several days to get them was ineptness on the parts dude at the first place I went and ordered them.  He got in a set for a 383 and said the were the same thing and would work.   I decided to go elsewhere.  I ended up getting 2 sets, just in case.
The roller rockers are Indy.  With the exception of the cam/lifters, the entire head/valvetrain is Indy.  See my post in Proven Engine Combos---528 Hemi for a little more onfo.  If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me..   :cooldancing:  Thanks   .....................Oldschool
