Uh, call me paranoid, but what is to prevent someone from copying the tag numbers from some of these posts and then having new tags made? Obviously they would not have the title to the car but would it be wise to NOT include every number to your tag when posting?

this can happen when you go to a car show, fender tag info can be made at anytime.

Don't want to post the full VINs but as my signature below shows, I have two original JS29VOB, Super Track Pak R/T SE's.  One is FC7 with a black top, black interior and stripe delete and the other one is FE5 with a white top, tan interior and stripe delete.

May I ask you RT/SE owners a question about your restorations? Did you have your engines totally rebuilt with new parts, pistons, etc. I am thinking about restoring my RT/SE 440 Six-Pack but want to keep everything stock as much as possible as it came from the factory. The motor only has 44000 miles but IS 43 yrs old, Replacing gaskets and hoses is a no brainer but what about the internals of the engine, i.e pistons, etc.? The engine block, intake manifold, carbs, tranny, etc. are numbers matching, but if the internals are replaced, how would this affect resale value with potential serious buyers further on down the line? Looking for any and all opinions, part of my process of obtaining as much info as I can. Thanks

With only 43,000 miles if the engine is running well & has decent compression it should be fine , if the compression is low then rebuild , it will affaect value but really after 42 years is expected that the engine would be rebuilt , if the compression is down the block will be worn & the only proper way to rebuild is to overbore , new pistons & cam etc . If you are going to rebuild there is a lot of options , better cam technology , ported heads or even increasing the displacement up to 512 CI which is not visable from the outside .

Around 84, I bought a Plum 4-sp, JS29U0B with a friend to part out. Told the guy that we didn't want the 440, so he pulled it and it sat in his front yard under a tree when we towed the car away. I wanted the Rallye cluster. I still have all of the belt trim and tail panel. Sold the car in the paper and guy bought it to cut off the good quarter panels to sell for a couple grand. The car looked terrible with primer spots and purple paint flaking off everywhere.

The sun was not good to purple paint 44 years ago. I parted many Challengers and sent them off to the crusher back then. :banghead:

Rob , I hate to admit all the stuff I've shredded over the years . But back then rusty junk was rusty junk. And another would come up in a day or two anyway. You just couldn't save all of it.

I agree. I never had the space to save them either. If you made more than you had in it, you got rid of it. I once offered a junk yard $250 for a running 68 Dart convertible, then said no when he wanted $275.

I posted this question in the body shop thread but had no luck. Hoping that one of the SE owners know the answer.

I'm presently restoring a 1970 Challenger RT/SE and need some help on the vinyl roof installation. I need help on installing the vinyl material over the rear window insert of the SE model. With the insert installed the surface of the insert is not even with the roof surface, it is lower by about 1/8" and there is a 1/4 inch gap around the insert. Obviously all of these fitment irregularities would look terrible if not corrected prior to installing the vinyl top.

Can anyone help me with what is the correct method/procedure in installing the vinyl material over the SE rear window insert? I have used the search function with negative results. Thanks in advance !
