"What the **** did you buy now!?.......71 Cuda
« on: January 16, 2006 - 06:50:31 PM »
That was the Question asked by my brothers wife about 5 yrs ago and he responded, with his tail between his legs, "a Cuda". Purchased out of New Mexico for $5000.00. Fast forward to this weekend and we are finally going to start this beast. We've collected alot of goodies for this original 383 HP, 4 spd, curious yellow Barracuda. I'll try to keep up with posts as we progress.

We spent the weekend stripping her down to get it ready for the media stripper. So far not too many dissapointments. I know the tail panel needs to be replaced due to some rear end accident sometime in its life. Qtrs don't look to be damaged severly. We already collected a perfect tail panel. We'll hopefully have it on a rotissori in the next couple of weekends. As of now we've collected an original E-body Dana, Crate Hemi, elastomer bumpers, complete shaker setup, and have had alot of parts plated their proper coating. We bought alot of NOS and excellent used pieces over the last 5 years. Good thing our wives don't know what we've spent so far. Plans are to have the body done by June. I figure it'll take 2-3 years to complete. But after seeing all that original curious yellow under the carpet, It'll be worth the wait.

Spent this weekend removing the rear end and k-frame. Built a rotissori and fixed the cuda on it. Next step will be to remove a little undercoat in the wheel wells and send it out next week to be plastic media stripped.

A friend of mine supplied me with a basic materials list and with a few personal mods spent Sat afternoon welding it together. I only have $500.00 and time in building it.

Very nice!!!  The progress is looking good.  It'll be nice to have it all blasted to see where you sit with rust repairs.

Keep us posted on your progress. Looks like it will be a fine Cuda when it's done. That's great making your own rotissori. Sure beats what I went through on my Challenger and Cuda projects.
