Forum Newbie - Mopar newbie..NOT
« on: January 17, 2006 - 12:48:20 PM »
Greetings

Completion for the 2006 Mop events in western US (and BC for Canadian neighbors) now looks promising. Debuting at Seattle roadster show Mar 5:

1970 Challenger convertible
original 318 JH27 car, - original FY1 Top Banana exterior, black int (H6X9)

1 yr. nut and bolt restoration to R/T specs, from bare metal, Magnum Force subframe connectors, Dupont Chroma paint, Happich canvas top
Added "options" rallye dash, power top lift, 3 speaker dash, flip top gas cap, go-wing, chin spoilers, body color sport mirrors, R/T rear valance and tips, shaker and fiberglass shaker hood

518 cid Hemi (vintage 1990's MP iron block +.030), Callies crank, Eagle 7.1" rods, Diamond pistons (10:1), Stage V replacement heads, Stage V 2x4 inline intake, currently running 2 x 660 Holley
TTI 2 1/8 SS headers w/ 3" X-pipe collector back to SS tips

TF 727 w/ 3,000 stall 764 converter
Reilly Motorsports AlterKtion w/ tublular A arms, rack & pinion, QA1 adjustable coil-over shocks, Schumacher hemi mounts
Strange S-60 "Dana 60" rear w/3.73 + Eaton Traction-lok
Custom rear leafs, Edelbrock shocks, American muscle snubber and shackles
Wilwood 4 piston @ 4 corners, 12" front rotors, 10" rear, rear parking brake in rotor hat

Custom Legendary interior w/ RT/SE cloth inserts
Custom white face rallye instuments
Stock AM radio with internals swapped for AM/FM + 160W amp, XM radio receiver, digital music player input

**********************
I'm not a fan of true "clones" and stay away from the whole argument as some have chosen to profit from deception. This car is a resto-mod and a tribute to the 9 "real" Hemi Challenger R/T convertibles. However, put your foot down on this one and there is no confusion with a stock Hemi, not mention the thrill of hitting the brakes and taking a line in the first turn you come to..

Welcome to the site. The exhaust X pipe looks great. Post some more pictures so we can all have a look at more of the Challenger.

Sorry, I was FUBAR on my multiple attachment method. Here is more eye candy.......

PS. The car also has a rallye hood setup you will notice in some pictures; sort of a chamelion, but the shaker REALLY is happening

I found this pic among some of the under construction folders.
I like the Joe Dirt look as the car was "temporarily" prepped for the 30 mile drive to the interior shop.

Great look huh !

OLDSCHOOL!!!

That is quite a piece you run there. In your neck of the woods I'm sure no one gets over on Mother Mopar!
Here's some pics on the dyno and the internals on my mill.

Motor as shown in the dyno pics made 620 hp @5700 on 91 octane. It has a flat torque curve of >600 ft/lbs from 4100 to 5100. Note these readings were taken without any collectors, as the cell we used has very limited exhaust connection options. So there is likely >20 ft/lbs left on the table there.

As far as how this combination works out, it is a very docile motor that comes on like nitrous blast when you hit the secondaries, and still runs nice on pump fuel. The stroker crank and 7.1 rod with chebby journal/bearings setup appears to deliver on the whole piston dwell/rod angularity argument in "lazy" torque production. The Cam Motion hydraulic [intake 240 deg @.050/.535 lift, exh 246 deg/.528 lift]
in the motor is very streetable with the converter I'm running, which most would consider pretty tight for a car like this.

I'm resisting the urge to tear down the top end and do a little head work, bump up the cam...

Is that a shaker scoop but the hood is R/T - obviously a new hood is going on the shaker.

Will the hood and scoop work even tho you used Schumacher motor mounts - I was told there are height probs with their mounts being too high?

Confused as usual
