True story:
I lived in New Orleans (God Rest Its Soul) for seven years, and one time I was returning from a trip, and needed to take a cab from the airport back to my place. Most of the cabs in Nawlins are 'car service' type of things, which are basically an '82 Lincoln mega-barge with half-vinyl landau roof, the whole thing (including the vinyl roof, I swear) painted bright red, white, yellow, or some other non-factory color, and then beautiful gold-leaf script lettering on the door saying something like...
"Placquemines Parish Car Service - We Serve All Parishes"
Sounds like fun, right? I love riding with these guys... So I hop in a bright red one, and the driver is real chatty, totally fun and funky Nawlins brotha, with more junk on his dash than your mom's dresser. After a minute or two, he says..
"You wanna watch a movie?"
And darned if he doesn't have a crappy home VCR and a color TV set running off an inverter, the whole thing wedged in between the front seat and the dash. He threw in Eddie Murphy in "The Nutty Professor" and, needless to say, I told him to take the long way home! What fun that ride was. He got a huge fare and huge tip. I still have his card.
I just wish I had pics.
