« on: January 18, 2006 - 06:45:54 PM »
Well Im curious to what people would say why and when they got hooked on the mopar fever. I know it all started when I got my first car it was a 1973 Charger SE and i know I had to have it and I still do have it

when I was 14 I wanted a 69 camaro cuz bowties was all HOTROD, Car Craft ect had in 'em. I thought that was all there was to choose from. One day my older brother brought home a '72 challenger. Wow! I had never seen one before and was hooked. 23 years later I've had a couple 'cudas & couple challengers but have never had a camaro. I didnt miss it. I've started on putting another challenger together and as luck would have it, its that same red '72 rallye challenger I first seen at 14.

Why a mopar????? 500,000 Mustangs, so 10,000 are the same color as yours, same with camaros. 50,000 Challengers, not that many left. Same with chargers, 'cudas etc,They can have:
High impact colors
Pistol grip shifters
Bullet proof drivetrain
shaker hoods
Grabber hoods
6 packs
340's 440's and the KING of all, HEMIS

I grew up on Mopars cause my mom worked for Chrysler for 36 years.  When it came to cars I really didn't know anything else or consider anything else but a Mopar.  Had lots of them too over the years.  Mom's still living and driving a Jeep at 77 years old.  And I'm still reminiscing bout all those mopars.

I didn't really "choose" Mopar, just prefer them 49/50 times compared to the competition. My love for mopars is largely due to the unique looks, but also on the rarity of the them and the return on investment. I just dont see dumping 20k into a car that will be worth 10k when finished and be the same as the other 50,000 (mustangs/camaros). I also had a strong influence from my family....my dad, 2 uncles, and another relative love mopars.....

Back in 1994 I went to Carlisle for the first time (Just the summer swap meet, all brands).  We went with our friend Rob who has a beautiful 70 Challenger.  While we were there he showed me a picture of a Pink 1970 Cuda.  I fell in love right there and bought the picture.  I always told him I would have a pink Cuda somday.  When I got my Cuda in 2004 his house was the first place I took her.  He was shocked!  He said he never thought I truly meant what I said.  LOL  I still have that same picture hanging on my wall too!

In '79 my high school buddy got me interestd.  His dad had owned a dealership thru the late 60's and early 70's.  His dream car was a '70 hemi Challenger.  If only we could of afforded one in '79.  My neighbor had a '69 440 GTX in dark green with slots and a '70 440 6 pack Roadrunner he raced in stock eliminator. They were awesome. A Hemi Cuda was less than 10K then!  He bought a '69 340 Cuda and I bought a '68 /6 Dart and then a '70 340 Swinger during our high school days.  It's a wonder we made it to graduation with all of the bush parties we went to but that is another story.

My first car was a 1965 chevy impala ss. Just out of high school a friend bought a yellow/black Challenger T/A. That first ride in those high back bucket seats and looking out over that bulging snorkle hood scoop was just to kool---I was hooked. Three weeks later I found my car sitting in a field. Had to beg my dad to co sign a loan for 1200.00. (1977)  Sum how it has survived the stupidity of my youth---have a few pieces to replace that I lost.

Like challenger_440, I got hooked when I bought my 1973 Charger SE from an ex-girlfriend, back in 1983. I had it restored  in 1989 ( a 2-year process ) and I still have that car to this day. Then I needed more power so in 1992 I bought a numbers-matching 1971 Charger RT from a boneyard in Louisiana, needed total restoration. To give you an idea what was needed, the car was hauled back to WI with the engine block in the trunk and the transmission case in the back seat.  2-year resto on that, got it back in spring 2002. Then I decided that it was time for the convertible Challenger that I've got now, and was lucky enough to find one for sale in southern Missouri in March 2004. Is that the end? Doubtful - the Mopar bug bit, and it bit hard.

In 1970, I was 10 years old. I was a "Hot Wheels" fanatic. I had the "Snake and Mongoose" funny cars. They were my 2 favorite ones. That was the seed that was planted then of Mopars. Then in 72 my mom and Dad bought the Barracuda. Then I was definitely hooked from there on.
