A body help, please
« on: January 19, 2006 - 06:01:08 PM »
Could all you A body folk please tell me where is the common rust problem spots on A bodies to look for? I'm very familiar with E body trouble spots, but not A bodies.  :dunno:
The reason is, I want to go check out a few 69's that I found a while back. I finally spoke to the owner last week, and he IS getting rid of them, after he snags a few last pieces off of one for his 69. I know they are not going to last, and are headed for the grave if I don't do anything.  :banghead: I'm having trouble dealing with that lately.  :crying: I know they're hurting  :crying:  I'll probably head out Sat. if possible. Thanks much all

R/T   Here are a couple of usual spots to chack on the "A" bods.  Make sure the torque boxes, frame, and spring hangers are in good shape.      Also the usual spots around the glass under the trim.  Lower quarters on some of the earlier ones.  Hope this helps little.    :cooldancing:   ......Oldschool

On my 70 Duster it's just the lower rear quarters, but it was sitting in two foot high weeds when I got it, so that probably helped it some.

In addition to what the others have mentioned, check the trunk floors where the spare tire sits in the center, under the board & mat. You have to be careful since the gas tank straps are connected on the underside of this location & not the frame. Also the rocker panel area near the rear wheel well opening. The rear seems more prone to rotting from inside than the front near the front fenders.

Good luck, Bob

hey hedkace one other thing before i head to work.grills tailpanel very hard parts to locate and inner door panels because the doors look the same from 67 68 69 but they are a little different.and if this guy has a clean set of 69 fenders grab them i know a guy with an m-code that is looking for a set.by the way when i ask people if they know of any challengers i seem to be getting the same response- good luck but even being against the idea of buying on e-bag i am watching a few i really like the 70 burnt orange L code from texas. I e-mailed the owner twice but have not gotten a response.also wanted to ask you are you going to the swap meet at the big-E in west springfield?

Thanks Mclown, I didn't even know about the swap meet. I will definitely head out Sun. for that. We have our boat show out there every year so I'm pretty familiar with that place. Should be decent. You going?
I just spoke to the guy with the barracudas on the phone this morning, so I am heading out there tomorrow (Sat.) fingers crossed.
Rust free A body? Thanks for rubbing it in  That's too cool
