Got my new driver home today
« on: January 25, 2006 - 10:26:10 AM »
I got my new driver home today a 70 Coronet :grinyes:, car looked great on all photos and when it arrived it was just like the photos. The car has a slantsix in it, and was really cheap, but then i discover that the car is not a v6 car its a 440 car with allot of options in untushed condition(exept for the motor) :faint:, how can any one do that to the car the dude sold it as v6 car, i would gladly have paid him the money to keep the motor in the car if i had known...

Nice daily!  Does the old owner still have the 440?  It would be nice to have them reunited.

How do you know it was a 440 car?  I thought that the 440 was only available on the R/T and the 440+6 on the Super Bee?

What is the VIN?

Are you sure its not the 440 trim level that was available?  I would imagine that going from a 440 to a /6 is alot more work considering you would need a different k member, transmission, rear end, and not to mention the radiator outlets are different as well as the throttle cable, wiring etc.

Just curious because I know alot of plain jane C bodies came with 440's, but i don't remember plain b bodies with them too.   The largest i've heard is the 383 4 bbl versions.

I second what 383bee said.   The coronets had an option package called the "440" , which had nothing to do with the motor size, in fact, most were powered by 318 motors.  There was also a coronet "500" version -

PS - a slant six and a V6 are totally different types of motors........

The Vin is WH41COG244040 and on the paper i got from the Us it says that its a 440 car. I know about the k-frame and all thats why i wonder who would put that kind of jobb to put a slantsix in and destroy such good car. I know the diffrens between slant and v6 i just wrote wrong thing...

The C in the above vin is for a slant 6 or 318.

IN 1970 U is the fifth code for a 440

BTW what you have is a coronet 440 model that has nothing to do with the motor.  You know that right? :dunno:

I use the fender tag decoder over on www.stockmopar.com

Here is a link to your VIN i ran...http://www.stockmopar.com/mopar-fender-tag-decoder.php?Code1=&Code2=&Code3=&Code4=&Code5=&Code6=&Code7=&Code8=&Code9=&Code10=&Code11=&Code12=&Code13=&Code14=&Code15=&Code16=&Code17=&Code18=&Code19=&Code20=&Code21=&Code22=&Code23=&Code24=&Interior=&Code25=&DateCode=&OrderNum=&Code26=&Code27=&Vin1=WH41&Vin2=C0G&Vin3=244040&Submit=Decode

Bassically it is a 4 door Coronet 440 with a slant six from St Louis.  Don't feel bad about the 440 thing.  It's pretty common for people to get that mixed up.  I even had a conversation with some bozo once who was telling me about the stock 500 inch magnum in his charger once!   :banghead:

The 440 trim line was a tier up from the standard trim.  A step higher got you the 500 trim package.  In fact the Super Bee spun off of the Coronet 440 line.  Cool driver, I love those front ends.

A good tip on reading VIN's for older mopars, the 5th letter is the engine code and the higher in the alphabet, the bigger the motor.  C is as small as you get (/6) and U is typically 440.  V is 440+6. And the Elephant is typically R for some reason.

R for "Race Motor"! Woo!

I'm betting that the code is based on the cubic inch size, but only for 1970. 69 and 71 start messing with the engine codes.
