Airshocks and Meaty Tires

Hi all,
I'm putting Monroe air shocks on the rear end, which will otherwise be stock.  I'm curious how many inches of lift I will get out of this.  Without flaring quarter panels or otherwise modifying things, I was curious what size tires and rims I can get away with back there?

A couple months ago, I put 15x8's back there, and put Hoosier P275/50/15's on them.  The math says these are about a 25.83 inch tall tire and rim.  I think they're great, but curious what I can actually get away with?

I think my goal would be 30 inch tall tires, on maybe 15x10 rims.  Is that doable without modifying anything else?  If it is, what would be a good tire size?  Are there any pics of anybody with them on their car?  Thanks.

With airshocks, you can get quite a lift if you feel like filling them up to the max. Do you realize the harsh ride you will have though? Sorry I can't give you any idea of what the most meat you can get back there is. 15X8 is no problem, but I don't know enough about the 15X10's.  :-[

I got about 3-4" of lift at max. pressure.  Ride wasn't too bad but I did pick-up a drivetrain vibration when I had the A$$-end up in the air.  I was able to get 295/50-15s almost under the car.  If I'd known how much the sidewall bulged out on that size tire, I'd have ordered the 15x8 rims with some offset.  0-offset left them hanging out about 3/4", so air-shocks were a necessityl.  The car's going through a restoration right now so new rubber is slightly smaller at 275/40-17 with 25mm offset to avoid the need for extra lift.  I'm going for a more hunkered-down look now.

With that much lift, you are changing the pinion angle of the front universal at the transmission, so that's where the drivetrain vibration comes in. Also, you are shifting the load to the front suspension, causing premature wear and geometry problems. I'd say anything over 2 inches over stock height is asking for problems on a street car.

airshocks suck

'CUDAs and Challengers have so many cool options for rear suspensions...
Spring relo kits, SuperStock springs, pinion snubbers ect...

Airshocks and slapper bars belong on Comearos and Ferberds

you will probably damage the rear shock crossmember with air shocks unless you re-inforce it
 better idea would be to order a set of arced spring to get the lift you want

:iagree: Because this happen to meand I had to have the crossmember cut out and rewelded back in cost me $475 to have it done. I'll never do that again

Any recommendations on parts to buy, including where you recommend to buy them, that will get about that 2" lift without air shocks?

I saw a Cuda with 30" rear tires and my eyes have gotten about as big as those tires, but the car did NOT look jacked up a lot in the back, so I'll bet you're right, it's probably a hardly noticeable 2" lift.

Would I be ok getting stronger leaf springs, and not relocating anything?  Thanks.

I just put new spring on my 71 Challenger for espo. I went with 1 inch over stock when I had them make my springs. My Challenger raised up 4 1/2 inches in the back with the new springs. They can make 2 inch over stock springs also to raise the car even more. Mine rides better than it has for the last 17 years that I've owned it.
