New Repro E&B body Mirrors
« on: January 25, 2006 - 10:36:57 PM »
Hey gang, I just got a catalog in the mail today from PG Classic in Canada. He sells a lot of stuff on Ebay for Mopars.  I bought my luggage rack from him a while back.  Anyway, he now lists outside rearview mirrors of 71-74 E-bodies.  It may be a great alternative to the junk people are selling on Ebay. They seem to run between $145-175 each or $299 a pair. Not to shabby if you ask me.  Check them out at www.pgclassic.com  It would cost more than that to have mine rechromed.

Very intriguing!  I need to do something with my pitted '74 Challenger mirrors and found out that it would cost 500.00 to restore them.  If these are good quality I may just buy a set from them...175.00...nice!

The bases are very cheap.. and so is the chrome. But since cars in the garages.. that doesn't matter I guess.

You know, Shakerhood.com has had them for years.  Not cheap, but there ya go. Never seen one in person, so I can't compare, but I'll be buying a pair....

Charlie,   It looks like they were only dealing with 70 mirrors.  The 71-71 has been almost impossible to find.

They have the 71 mirrors as well. Ben told me the chrome is fantastic. Mine for the 70 was very nice!

I was told that Dusters and Darts had the identical outside mirrors as the 70 models.  All you needed was a base and you were set.   Seems like I heard this a few time on Moparts.com    Can someone confirm this??

This is true, that is why A body racing mirrors went up in value.

I had a bad experience with this guy (PG Classic) on Ebay.  He did not ship the part and would not communicate with me until I left negative feedback and got money back through Ebay and Paypal.  I hope this was an isolated incident.  I'm guessing the parts are offshore reproductions so quality is always the question.  On the other hand it's just nice that someone is reproducing the parts.

Matt,

The luggage rack I bought from him seemed very nice quality but it was shipped to me directly from China. I think he is an asian gentlemen so he probably has connections overseas that produce these for him.

With all of the junky mirrors I have purchased off of ebay so far nothing is even worth rechroming so this might be a nice alternative.  I also spoke with Ben at Shakerhoods.com and he said he will have the 71 mirrors ready shortly. Hopefully they will be as nice as others have said about his 70 mirrors.  It is nice to have choices.

I've had mirrors rechromes by Nu-Chrome. They cost $150 a pop, but I can't believe how good they look. I don't think that's unreasonable. One of the mirrors I sent them hardly had any chrome left on it. Talk about fugly.  :eek4: The point is, it doesn't matter what shape the mirrors are in to get them rechromed, since it all gets stripped anyway. Just my 2 pennies.  :2cents:

Original is always better than the re-pop stuff that's out there. I finally got around to bringing in the mirrors for my '70 Challenger to get re-chromed by a place in Milwaukee,WI - Badger Plating. They do a lot of stuff for custom and show cars. My mirrors were very porous, so they have to be copper-coated, prior to the chrome plating process, to fill in the little pits and pores. Anyway, for 2 mirrors, 2 mirror bases, and the remote mirror control knob will run me about $ 315.00. I don't think that's too much of a price to pay for being able to retain the original mirrors, and the work that I have seen that's been done by them is very good. With luck, I'll be getting my mirrors back in about 1 week - can hardly wait to put them back on! :woohoo:
