Conversion from 318 to 440
« on: January 27, 2006 - 07:25:30 AM »
It'll be a while before I can pull this off, but I might as well plan early...

A local MOPAR guy was telling me that to convert from a 318 to a 440 in my 73 Cuda, I won't need to change my driveshaft or motor mounts.  Is that right?

I know I'll need a 727, but it seems funny that the driveshaft and motor mounts would be the same.  Thanks.

I don't think that is right, you'll get a better answer from the next guy. v

I would change the drive shaft, to a bigger style yoke and U joints. I would also change your yoke on your chunk to that too.  Especially if your 440 is horse power hungry, they like U joints.

They make a two sided u joint that would work, but I wouldn't mess with that.

I would say that the motor mounts are different also but the K frame will be the same!

if the 318 had a 727 trans behind it it si possible to use the same driveshaft , if you have a 904 trans behind the 318 which is more common neither the slip yolk or the driveshaft will fit
, the K frame is the same but the 440 needs different mounts as 4C said
