Don't know if any of you have seen the latest issue with the mustang, camaro and 70 Hemi Cuda Convertible on the front, all 3 owned by Craig Jackson - yeah, the Barret Jackson Auction guy - in the article, it states that a Hemi cuda coupe OR convertible in worn driver condition is worth 2-2.5 MILLION!!!!!!  Even rediculous prices on EBay aren't that high! keep in mind I'm quoting for a worn driver condition car....

I had to blink and look a couple more times......what are these guys thinking? Now don't get me wrong, I think it is cool our cars have gone up in value and all, but in some ways I think that it sucks because so many people won't ever get a chance to enjoy these cars cause they'll be hoarded up by investors. And the parts prices were through the roof years ago, but anyway, I'll stop ranting now......

P.S. so does this mean my 70 Barracuda Gran Coupe 383 column shift A/T car is worth 80k now?? (according to B-J and Car and Driver)

Last time I checked only one E bod has ever sold for 2 million, and it was a 71 hemi cuda convertible.  And it wasnt a worn driver.

they did sell a 70 hemicuda convertible for $2 million at barrett-jackson last week but it was mint, and by the way it was to the guy that owns two 71 hemicuda convertibles already.
certainly backs up the argument that they are being hoarded by rich guys

That is high but IMO I think it's good not everybody will get to enjoy them.
Why?? Because, simple, if there are say, 20 HEMI Cudas about and they go through about 50+ drivers between them in the next 5 years that's a lot of risk and there are bound to be a few accidents. These cars aren't Civics or Dodge Rams.

If an average person could afford them this hobby would loose cars on a daily bases.
If they want to enjoy these cars look down further towards 340's or 74 440 clones or something, not one-of-one HEMI's.

I think the nice Hemi cars really are being bought up buy rich people. They have the money to pay big bucks for what should go for alot less money. They are making the not so rare Mopar's rise in value and making hard for the regular person who is a working stiff to afford one. I wish I could buy any nice Challenger or Cuda for around $10,000 so I could buy and sell as I wanted to. It's to bad the Barrett Jackson auction has become a he who has the most money to spend wins show.  Just my 2 cents.

I grew up reading my Dad's Road and Track mags so Porsche became my ultimate dream car.  In high school I got introduced to Mopars so I have had this constant battle inside as to what car I would have if money was no object.  The Mopars have always been affordable so the choice was easy.  I joke with my wife that pretty soon my 'Cuda will be worth as much as a Porsche and I can sell it and finally make the move (but would I?)

The Barrett-Jackson auction has pristine cars for pristine people. IT is like watching car crazy on TV and trying to relate to the millionaire guys he has as friends describe the hobby. The hobby is people like us buying stuff from the cousinn of my grnadma's sister, from the paper, from web boards and sometimes ebay. B-J is not a benchmark for the hobby, just millionaire spoiled brats who like to flaunt thier money and buy a museum piece. The commission on the ornage hemi cuda convert was 160,000. I could of bought alot of nice cars just with that cash (2,000,000 times 8%)

I'll bet that for most of us, the car in the garage that's worth the most (or soon will be) isn't the new Lexus, Cadillac, Porsche or loaded Ram 3500 Cummins.  It's the car that makes you a part of this forum.
Bless those rich idiots who have driven up the value of my common car so much.
Curse those same idiots for making everyone think they have a gold mine sitting in their barn. If it stay's like this, my Challenger will forever be an only child!

I should clarify what I meant in my original post, I don't have a problem with the rare cars being pricey, and so on, the trickle down is what bugs me. But on the other hand, if the cars hadn't increased in value, would Goodmark be making fenders for them? probably not - oh yeah, one good thing about that article, this website is mentioned in it!

   You hit it right on the head, JS27.  It's sad it'll be hard to find any reasonably priced E-body in the next 10 years, but there's still hope to find decent deals....at least I hope so.  I don't think I have a false sense of reality.

It seems like E-Bodies might be a new 401K. Buy now, sell later at a much larger profit than the stock market will give you. Just think what the prices of these cars have done in the last 5 years or so. Much better than the stock market. It's sad for us that just love the cars.

are you sure its car and driver classics?  i was at the store, saw motortrend classics with a cover exactly as you describe.  what page is the reference to this site on?
