Nada has the 72 Barracuda valued at $1200 less than the 73, why?
Vmrintl has them listed the same.

Some of the 73 cudas have painted tail panels, while some have black. Whats the story on that?

Originally the barracuda had car color & the 'Cuda had the black out, as far as those price guides, pretty useless IMO on these old cars! Rich.

NADA is based on actual transaction values reported by DMV agencies around the country. Given the small number of transactions, it is very possible that the distribution of values for the '73 year is possitively skewed, resulting in the arithmatic mean being larger for the '73 year than for the '72 year because of 1 or 2 speicific transactions. Of course, the '72 year values could be negatively skewed. With small sample sizes, a single transaction can have a huge effect on the mean.

There are classic car pricing guides out there which are not solely based on transaction values and which use the 5-point rating system for vehicle condition. Still, the problem here is simply a problem of small numbers.

Plus with the NADA using DMV sales figures alot of transactions are submitted with lower sales prices than they were actually purchased. I have seen a good number of older cars come in claiming they paid a really low figure for a fully restored car.

You are right, who in their right mind would pay taxes on a 30k 35 year old car?The buyer would tell DMV they paid ALOT less.Dont get me started on the taxing of a vehicle that has already been taxed.A used car could be taxed as many times as it sells. To me this is just car dealers lobbying,if all used cars were not able to tax again, new car dealers would lose tons of money.Wrong to me no matter how you slice it,over taxing is rampant in america and I'm tired of half of my salary going to pay the living of deadbeats that dont want to work.OK I did get started, sorry, lol, just struck a cord,ha

OK, I'll tell my story.  :-[  :-[  :-[  :-[  :-[

When I bought my Challenger, it had a Florida title. I needed a notarized bill of sale to get it transferred to Maryland. When I went to get it registered, the woman at the window laughed her head off at me.  :-[  :-[  :-[ She said " you paid THIS, for a 30 year old car"???  "That must be some car honey".Yep, I got screwed, but there was no way around it.  :stomp:

In Massachusetts they now accept what you paid as the amount for the sales tax at the RMV. But up in Boston they review it then come up with a value, send you a letter requesting the difference of the tax money and hold your title ransom. I bought a 74 Barracuda needing a complete restoration paid $2,650 paid the tax on that amount and then got a letter saying you owe $175.00 more or we will not issue your title.

Surpiresing here in calif we are not ahead of everyone else,at DMV they just ask you how much you paid for it if its an older vehicle, but you can get most sellers to state what you want to say you paid on a hand writen bill of sale.I guess maybe they feel sorry for us saps for paying all the other calif taxes but i wouldnt count on it,I think its up to each agent how much of a pain they want to be or if they are having a good/bad day.

In Wisconsin they send you a letter 6-9 months after you either buy or sell if your price listed is not within their median on similar vehicles. Not that they don't get enough of my money already! :villagers:

:iagree:
When I went to title my car, I paid $4,000 and then the lady at the counter called someone, not sure who, and got a value of $4,000 so she didn't ask for any more money.  I wonder who she called and how they figure these price quotes? ???
