Awesome job!  I had been wondering if you had made the cabinet yet.  Thanks for the update!

Thanks everybody!! This has been a fun distraction! The other benefit is that my welding skills seem to be improving.

Now I just have to clear a spot in the garage to set this up...   :bricks1:

Ah....How bout that spot where the pic of the Green Mustang is. You could put it right in front of it.

As I promised earlier, here's the update!
I'm just putting the lid together now - it's already welded to the hinge on the back of the cabinet. All that's left is to finish the lid, then figure out how to cut the holes for the arms. I'll give the whole thing a coat of industrial red, and once that's done it's blasting time!

Comming right along, don't forget to have the truck deliver about 2 ton of sand for that "super blaster", she'll hold a bunch.

Almost done! I'll post pictures either later on tonight or tomorrow.
The only items left are to cut the trap door in the bottom of the hopper (to change the media) and to get the supports welded on for the air lines (ran out of gas yesterday!). Oh, and I need to buy some expanded sheet so that the part being blasted has somewhere to rest.
Then paint!

I wonder if you could do this in thick plexi-glass? maybe expoxy the panels together and then seal the seams with 3M windshield eurathane? I bet you could do the whole thing for $50 !

Awesome project though! Not trying to hijack...I am just a nerd and for some reason think this kinda stuff is fun! :banghead:

You could probably do plexi-glass for less money, but I'm not sure how well it would hold up to the media over the long-term. With metal you can keep modifying it (ie. cut another section out for dust-collection, or weld more bits on without any issues).

You wouldn't say that if you saw how much warping I've got along the front and back of the cabinet.  ::)
I've learned a whole lot about heat dissipation...

Paint is on! (still a few minor things to touch up, like another arm hole!)

Tada!!  Looks like a blast cabinet to me!!  Great job....except you might need another arm hole, unless you are really proficient with one! j/k

Got the other arm hole taken care of today!

I've been pretty lax about getting this finished, so while I was waiting for the furnace inspection guy I went out and tidied up the details on the cabinet. I had a little more welding to do (much easier with a full bottle of gas!), and needed to apply more weatherstripping around the window. Here's a few pics.

I even gave it a test run (notice the gas tank strap in the second picture). It works great! I've got a few gaps that need to be addressed, but it's exactly what I originally envisioned for this.

Now I can finally get back to working on the Challenger again!
