I made an rpm chart for anyone who needs it, it was made for me but it's quick reference for someone else.

Gear Vendors RPM Chart

Speeds below at 65mph (105kph)

3.55 Gear (2.76 OD) = 2150rpm
3.73 Gear (2.91 OD) = 2270rpm
3.91 Gear (3.05 OD) = 2380rpm
4:10 Gear (3.20 OD) = 2495rpm

Speeds below at 75mph (120kph)

3.55 Gear (2.76 OD) = 2480rpm
3.73 Gear (2.91 OD) = 2620rpm
3.91 Gear (3.05 OD) = 2740rpm
4:10 Gear (3.20 OD) = 2880rpm

Yip.....I found out my Challenger was running, get this, ready, 2:76 gears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :eek7: :sly:
That's great because she still goes hard. lol I'm not going 4:10's as planned instead going with 3:55's as I thought, get a MUCH better take off and still get the same cruising gear I have now, 2:76.

Ordered and on it's way from Year One.  :bananasmi :ylsuper:

:burnout: Keep us up to date Carl, this will be a good one to follow.
I'm getting one also but not sure when it will be ready to try. Probably fall if all goes well. I'm going with the 4.10's and a nice set of MT DOT slicks so it doesn't just sit and roast the tires. If it's not enough tire when the time comes, the 8-3/4 it's simple to swap gears I've got a new set of 3.23's ready to install.

That's the problem though Glen.....

I forgot to mention that GV needs to know what ratio you have before they send because they set it up for those gear ratios, so changing ratios later on will be putting the GV unit off and basically making the system useless.

That's why I'm pulling my hair out...I need to make the right decision, now.  :pullinghair:

I've emailed Gear Vendors help line asking if this is true if they make the GV unit, or set it up for the gear given by the customer. I also asked if we can change gear ratios later down the track, will it wreck or void the GV...etc?
So when they reply I will let you know, if I knew that I could change the ratio later on if 4:10's were too much I'd get 4:10s! But 3:55's are where I sit at the moment...2:76 cruiser and no slouch from the line.....

Cheers,
Carl

Hey guys, what size tire diameter you runnin? I got 33" tall M/T Sportsmans, 486 gears (spooled) and I go 50 mph revvin about 3,000 rpm. I been considering an overdrive too cuz I love the launch I get with my gears but I can't get comfortable on the freeway buzzin that high.

I have 28" tyres 275/60/15's and currently get around 2100rpm @ 65mph with 2:76 gears.
I'm leaning towards 3:55's with the Gear Vendors which will still keep me at my current cruising gear of 2:76.

Is there any chart that can determine 60ft's or 0-60mph using gear ratios, engine out put, weight, trans, tyres etc?

Just to let you guys know...

Lucy will be getting 3:91 gears.  :ylsuper: :bananasmi :naughty: :burnout:
A nice intermediate gear, 3:73's would also be good but I wanted close to 4:10s without being 4:10's.  :lol2:

I feel that this gear will give Lucy the best launch even over the 4:10's.
4:10's maybe a little too much, 3:55's not enough and 3:73's close....3:91's will give me everything I need.

The cruising gear with OD is 3:05 which runs 2380rpm @ 65mph.  :grinyes:
Can't wait...funny that...3:55's or 4:10s for the last day have been blasting my head....
Then I/We/info help choose 3:91's instead....gotta love it. lol

Thanks everyone.......

Can someone help figure what I'd get with my 486s. I love em but can't cruise em.

4.86 x 0.78 = 3.79 OD Gear which would run 2500rpm @ 60mph or 3000rpm @ 72mph. Not bad at all.

I have 33" tall tires and I'm doin 50 at about 3,000 rpm now. For all that money I was hopin for better gains than 65 at 2,500 R's.
I may just do the extra 9" center section in the 3's somewhere for cruisin. I'm told it's an easy swap when you need it. Pull the axels and switch it out. Not too bad. I just don't know!

500rpm and 10mph is a huge difference, HUGE difference. That's like swapping 2:76 gears for 3:91s.
Also, with the unit you not only save gas but get 6 forward gears which in theory offers 28% faster acceleration.

I calculated your 33" tires into the equasion too.
Bullet proof and rated to 1200hp that's still a good deal.

You're  right, that's a pretty nice gain for being able to keep the 486s. Who knows, by the time I make up my mind I might redo the whole rearend anyway. It's spooled with the 486 gearing and spends almost all the time on the street anyway.
So what would be the hot ticket for that ride if I don't want to kick down the bones for the GV.
I run 355s on my 89 Saleen Mustang and it is absolutely perfect! It is a 5 speed though.
So considering that I'm clueless with the math, what do you guys think is a good all around street gear.
So. Cal. freeways AVERAGE at least 75 mph. I feel I wouldn't get plowed if I were cruisin at 65 minimum.
The 50 mph that I PUSH now is scarey to say the least. I almost got my clock cleaned by a Hybrid the other day, I'm sooo lucky!

I have one and I love it  :burnout:
I got the unit mounted under the radio and engage/disengage it by pressing down on hibeam switch. Hibeams are now used with another switch under dash edge. 28 inch tall tires, 3.55 gears, foward pattern 727 w/ 3,800 stall. When I get a new rear I'm getting 3.91 gears and lowering stall speed. I'm in search of good top end power

What's the actual street price when the deal is done? It really does sound good.

IMO with your set up 4:30's may be the way to go. Still a fantastic ratio, you drop a bit of aggression from the line. I have no idea how you hook up now, with those huge fats at the back I would imagine you have no problems with your hook up so maybe 4:56 gears too. Below are what you would gain by going to 4:30's and 4:56's.

4:56 gears would give you an OD gear of 3.55
4.30 gears would give you an OD gear of 3.35

With 4:56 gears @ 75mph in OD = 2710rpm (just a tick over 2700rpm).
With 4.30 gears @ 75mph in OD = 2560rpm

Without the Gear Vendors unit and a gear change to either 4:30's or 4:56's:

4:56 gears @ 75mph = 3480rpm (Over your 4:86 gears is a 200rpm decrease)
4:30 gears @ 75mph = 3280rpm (Over your 4:86 gears is a 430rpm decrease)

IMO  4:30 would be the way to go to see a major difference, 430rpm drop is very good.

3.55 with your set up and or 3.35 are very good for the car you are driving.
Even in stock form (440-4bbl) making stock hp/Trq 3.35 gears offer good mph and mpg on the highway.

The Gear Vendors unit is $2,395 give or take $50 on where you buy it from.
Considering the price of the Keisler products this is one hell of a price, you do it once and that's it.
I have heard they are bullet proof while doing my own searches (from well known car guys on other forums).

Hope that helps.
