295/50-15??

Has anybody tried running this rear tire/wheel combo? 295/50-15 on an 8" wide ralley wheel with 5" backspace. This would be with the leaf springs in the stock location. Car is a 73 Challenger.

  I think 4" backspace is the sweet spot with an 8" rim, but I have 15x8.5 Centerlines with 4 7/8 back spacing and 295/50/15 BFG's on the back of my 72 Challenger with a stock rearend. They were 1/16th's to 3/16th's from the leafspring so I had to use 3" long ARP wheel studs, open end lugnuts and Mr. Gasket 7/16th's wheel spacers to get the clearance to at least 1/2 inch from sidewall to leafspring.

That's close but it may not be enough. On my '73 that would put the sidewall 3/8" off the spring but flush with the fender lip. Depending on how high or low your car sits in the rear, you may end up having to trim the lip slightly to prevent rub. got my wheels, here is a pic of one.. I just called tire rack to order my eagle gt's.. these have a sectional width of 12.1 and a tread width of 11.0.. I know some guys on here run the bf goodrich and firestone. but it seams that the wider the foot print the taller the tire.. I didn't know that.. so for me to go with the eagles it would raise it about a half inch compaired to the bf goodrich tire.. so that half inch of height could cause a problem.. not sure now if I want to trust getting them..  is there anybody else out there that run the 295/15's using other brand tires?

well, got the tires on, these tires have a 11inch tread width.. fits in there no problem..

How much room did you end up with from sidewall to leafspring?
What leafsprings are those? And are you going to roll the inner lip up?

I should of took measurements, but I would guess close to 2 inches from leaf spring, and it may not appear I have room from the lip, but I sat on the back of the trunk and my dad still had about 2 fingers before fender lip... I have a pretty stiff susspension, so I doubt very much if it wil ever rub, if it should I'll just slightly roll the lip. but I really doubt that I will have to... I know they guy I bought it off of, had changed the front and rear springs, but I dont know what he used...

no, I dont yet, but I love the look, I didn't want to keep them all on, because my car sits out side over the winter, and untill spring when I return it to the road, I want to avoid any bit of discoloring, so I dont need to polish, as it is now I have my carbs and manifold to repolish...

went to throw them all on, for a quick pic.... I am going to set the front lower, the old tires were 25 inches tall, so to avoid smacking the 7 quart man on the ground along with the headers, it was raised.. so i believe it's a matter of adjusting the torsion bar.
