block ,heads ,cam ,con rods are unique , you can use a 440 crank , windage tray from a 440  , virtually nothing esle beside what you listed

That the block and rods are unique that did i know, but the crank and windage tray that i dident know thanks Chryco, i was thinking in buying a poor 426 block and put in the garage and in some years you have a 426
Then that i have a not soo good 440 without heads(thou crank look good) that i can take parts from dont makes things harder either...

I would buy a new block , all the old ones are so beat up now & even the old ones are virtually the same price as new

Is it that bad, ok i know that all are like 0.30 over. Its just a sick childhood dream to have real 426 block and heads...  :burnout: I will never afford to buy new stuff, and i dont care if it take 10 years and sure it will cost 15k before its running but to pay allot for a crate Hemi is way out my pricerange.

Got this from Troy on Charger....The Hemi crank has 8 bolts vs 6 for the RB. The balancer and all the pulleys are different as well due to the thickness of the balancer. The Hemi used a 3 bolt cam but I'm almost positive you can use a 2 bolt(?) cam in one if you change grinds.

I have to say that many parts from a 440 will physically bolt on but they aren't necessarily "the same". Water pump housings are interchangeable but the stock ones were different. The Hemi used a bigger stock oil pan but many people use the higher capacity pan on 383s and 440s already so they'll interchange. The Hemi actually used a different bellhousing, starter, and flywheel on the 4-speed cars. You can use the 6 bolt flywheel, bellhousing, and starter (as a set) if you drop in a 440 crank to match. The autos had a different flexplate for the 8 bolt crank as well but can be interchanged just like the 4-speed stuff. I think timing chain covers are the same and an RB distributor should fit.

yes timing cover & dist swap , the cranks will swap but as you siad the Hemi is 8 bolt which is no big deal , 6 bolt stuff is easier to get & generally cheaper

BIg block & Hemi cams are both available in 1 bolt or 3 bolt design & most grinds can be purchased on either , But Hemi cams & 440 cams do not swap from one to the other
