I'm in Hunterdon County NJ. I'm going to fix the dings.. and block/wet sand the whole car w/ 220 then 400. So all a shop would need to do is tape & paint base/clear with the clear buffed.

You might want to think about how much of an investment you want to make in a paint job if you don't take it down to bare metal.  There will be old filler and it doesn't last forever.  I don't see why you can't get a good paint job for $3-4K if you do the prep work.  Wet sanding and polishing would add to the cost.  I spent another $2K on my black Demon getting this done.

Fish,

I am talking to kenny right now and he said when you block the car get k38 high build primer by ppg and you will need the hardner and the activator.4:1:1 is the formula. He also says to get guid coat in the powder form to block the car correctly for black he said he would block 4-5 times with the last blocking at 600 grit.Do it in the following this is how he does his cars and you have seen them.

blocking-1.
1.80 grit
2.180 grit
3.220 grit
4.400 grit
5.600 grit
And if you want it to be no sand scratches go with 800 or 1000 grit for last block.

Suppplies are going to be expensive but if you want it right then it will cost.He is sorry he cant get to your car right now he is so busy finishing a 65 gto and a 70 chevelle 454 car and he has to get his 68 gto conv done to sell on the net all these have to be done and gone by june we shall see.He is building paint booth in garage in april so he can have less hassles.Email him if you have any other questions.

Thanks Michelle. I am only blocking the existing paint on the car.. not taking down to metal & starting over.
Thanks for the advice.. ask Kenny what length rubber block does he use?

Ken,

He uses a paint stick or a 12 inch sanding block but mostly the paint stick.Good luck.
