Procharger?
« on: February 09, 2006 - 12:02:57 PM »
Is anyone running a procharger on a small block? Drivability? Horsepower? What work do you have done to the motor? I'm thinking about putting one my 340. :working:

I don't have one on my '72 340 but tinkered with the idea since it's already at 8.5:1 compression (enigine still stock, never taken apart.).  Here's a reply I got back from Bob at http://www.thesuperchargerstore.com/

Hope this gives you a little info.  The reply was a couple of years ago so the prices/info may be a little different now.

I do not believe a car with an 8/71 build date is a left over 71 model, so your compression ratio should be just fine. The engine has a lot of miles but if it is in good condition the supercharger will not adversely affect the longevity. The Thermoquad carburetor is a problem though. You will need to use a Holley with mechanical secondaries. The boost is changed by changing the driven pulley on the supercharger. You should have no problem achieving 400 horsepower. The price for a P-1SC for your small block is $2696.00. Power steering adds $400.00 for a new Saginaw power steering pump with remote reservoir and new hoses. Power brakes adds $50.00 for a check valve for the power brake vacuum hose. Thank you for your interest in our product.    Bob

Stock CAST pistons aren't a great idea with boost. If you're rebuilding, best pop for a set of FORGED slugs.
Should be a neat deal !

I am going to get one eventually...but I need a minimum of the f3 which will support up to 1050hp...cost will be $6 grand because i need the water injection kit...and also switch to a cam with a wide centerline...I need the f3 minimum due to my motor being a 500 stroker...

I already have forged pistons, was thinking of dropping compression to 8:1 instead of 9.5:1 which I have now. Also was going to put a set of Indy 360-2 heads on. The blower I'm looking at is the P-1SC or the D-1SC, and an intercooler. Was going to run @ 10 psi to 14 psi of boost. It will be close to $4000 for the blower set up and $1200 for the heads.Looking to get between 600 hp and 700 hp and still be tame enough to drive on the street. Was also going to contact engle cams for a recommendation on the cam, it will probably have a 112 to 114 degree centerline. A close friend of mine runs the Stahl header fab shop and he's going to custom build a set of headers for me for free, he owes me one for rewiring his basement. A set of those headers is worth about $3000 according to him. :money: Free is nice!

What mods did you have to the motor?

Check out the latest issue of Mopar Muscle Magazine, they did an engine build up the an ATI procharger on it. Made some rediculus HP.
