1970 Challenger Remote mirror control unit
« on: February 09, 2006 - 09:47:08 PM »
When I got my Challenger in 2004, the driver side mirror wiggled like crazy - no wonder, I find it's a remote control mirror which wasn't hooked up. The guys I bought the car from had installed new door panels and conveniently forgot to drill a hole in the door panel and hook up the remote control mirror. Well, I want to get the remote mirror control back in my life, I've got the threaded chrome bezel for the control, but how do I keep the unit from falling back out of the hole? Is there a threaded nut or c-clip or something on the backside of the door panel to hold everything in place? And if so, who might carry such an item? Thanks for any help!

For 1970 there was a stamped steel retainer, it looks like the one in the photo. Later models used a thin stamped nut. I have an extra nut, if you want it PM me with your mailing address and I will send it to you.

Hmm not to hi-jack your thread or anything, I just thought about something when you posted this. I dont think Chrysler did but I will ask anyway. Did chrysler make a non-remote sport mirror?? If not, how would one go about installing a sport mirror in place of a standard mirror without a remote??? Reason being is because I really dont like/want the remote mirror and I would hate to cut up my door factory SE door panel.

The driver's side racing mirrors were all remote.

An SE with the std. mirror has to be pretty unusual!

Thought they all are remote, thankyou for confirming it. Im guessing that nobody else has ever tried doing what I plan on doing, maybe I can find a junk passenger mirror and adapt the internals to the drivers mirror.

That is the main reason why I dont want to cut up my door panels......

I am also missing the same retainer. Does anyone know if it is being reproduced?

Hey, Alaskan_TA, just wanted to let you know I received that thin threaded nut to hold in my remote control mirror unit. That'll keep the unit from falling out of the door panel for sure! Thanks again for the help!:worshippy

You will also need this bracket or something similar to keep the cables from binding with the window.

Never mind! Took off the driver door panel, peeked inside the door, found that cable routing bracket already installed. Thanks for the tip, though!

Does anyone know if the stamped steel retainer for the mirror control is being reproduced?
