Hi everyone
« on: February 10, 2006 - 08:19:51 PM »
Just like to say hi and introduce myself.  I don’t have a bunch of rare mopars or even ones I can drive right now, but I have been around them my whole life.  The two mopars I currently own are project/basket case cars that are my first and second cars that I have owned.  My first car I bought was 70 Cuda when I was in high school (1975?).  It was a matching numbers 383 magnum, 4 spd, 3.23 rear end, black interior and that dark Ivy Green Metallic Paint.  An interesting side note was that it was label 340 one side and 383 on the other (hood emblem & hockey strip) from the factory.  If you ever worked on an assembly line you can understand how easy it would be for this to happen.  That mismatch made for some very interesting street racing on Telegraph Rd (west side of Detroit).  Anyways, it was a nice car for young kid in high school (see old photo).  A couple years later a bought a 70 Challenger that was a semi-basket case.  I put back together as a non-matching numbers 440, 4 spd, 3.55 read end, black interior, black vinyl top and white exterior.  It looked similar to NZs Challenger, but with a full black vinyl top and cragars.  (No photos of it in its prime, all $$ when to engine) But of course, it was not as detailed as NZs Challenger, by the way NZ congratulations and nice job.  The Challenger had an 850 Holley, High Rise Aluminum intake, headers, large cam and it ran pretty good for a street car.  I have hung on to these cars for the past 30 years, you can read about my entire sad story about how they have remained untouched for 20 some years at
http://www.carsinbarns.com/Mopars%20In%20Barns/pg113mopar.htm

Like I said, I have been around Mopars all my life my father worked at Dodge Main Assembly (Hamtramck) and Jefferson Assembly all his life.  He always bought Newports.  I also worked at Dodge Main Assembly also for several years when they were building Aspens and Volaries.

I still live in Michigan, near Howell/Hartland area and have been working in the automotive testing field for the past 25 years.  One day I hope to put them back together, Cuda will probably be black on black with the red hockey stripes and the Challenger will be similar to NZs (I hope!).  My son is getting interested in cars, so I have been taking him Milan Drag Strip, Woodward Dream Cruise and we also went down  to the Detroit Auto Show to see the new Challenger (See photo).  I hope with your great web site, members input and my son’s interest in car I’ll be able to keep the cars on a higher priority in my life so I can drive them once again.  I sure do miss driving them.

Welcome aboard Snowdog!     It's great to hear of someone that actually still owns the car they had in high school.   :ylsuper:  Sounds like you have a plan.    :grinyes:  It is great that your son is taking an interest also.  There's lots worse things out there for him.  Post more pics when you can.    :cooldancing:    ....Oldschool

I responded to your test message, but I will respond here too.  As old school states it is cool to see someone still own their original car.  Welcome aboard.

Hey Snowdog!  Welcome to the board.  It's really cool you hung on to those cars for all these years.   I know you called them projects/basket cases...but really how bad are they?  We have folks on here who have tackled some pretty serious projects, so you're in good company.

Post often and enjoy the site!

:wow:, great story.  That is great that yo went back and found them in still there after 20 years.   :ylsuper: I hope you and your son have many good adventures rebuilding them.  I wish I would have kept all the cars when I was in high school.   :banghead:  You will find a lot of great people here that can offer great advice.   :working:

Welcome to the site, Snowdog!!!  That's really cool you kept both of your cars you had back when you were younger!  I remember reading about your cars on CarsInBarns.com a while back...it's great they were still there when you got back to them!!!!  Best of luck getting motivated for the upcoming restorations and it's great that your son is getting interested in the older cars.  Those cars would be a great way to bond with him and maybe eventually you could buy him an A-body he could use throughout high school.  I hope you enjoy the site!

Well, thanks everyone for the warm welcome, this forum really does have some of the nicest people.  I couple of you had some questions I’d like to answer in this reply; if this is not the correct way to do it please let me know (would a PM be better?).
Old School:  I guess my plan is to pay the house off 1st (4-5 yrs left) and then build a decent garage/polebarn (I dumped all my $$ in house & property).  In the mean time I’d like to sell some extra stuff I have sitting around and pick some stuff I need.  Learn more on this web site and show my son what real cars are like.
Alaskan_TA:  I just got off the phone with my dad in AZ and he said he doesn’t have any photos of Dodge Main (Hamtramck Assembly).  He was a pipefitter and I worked on the line as an inspector, a body hanger on the bondarite (sp?) line and sometimes on the paint line.  If you have any questions let me know, I can still remember working there quite well, as it was hard work (Compared to what I’m doing now).
4Cruzin:  I have seen a black Cuda around town but could never catch up to it.  Do some of the guys with muscle cars still meet up at Big Boy in Howell during the summer?  We should get together since we live so close to each other.  We could swap stories and/or parts.  I have posted some photo of the current condition of both cars that aren’t on the Cars in Barn Site.  My call name comes from my dogs; they love the snow and will bury their heads under snow and push under it like a submarine.  I have attached a couple photos of them they are Belgian Tervurens.

SnowDog, Welcome to the board man. Your not alone with some basket case cars man. Trust me. My 69 is a big basketcase, the engine when i pulled her out looked like she was used as a boat anchor, but a couple bills later and she is one beautiful engine now. Just keep going with it, and stick to your guns man.
