Sems is great for interior dyes. Plastic panels take a very careful prep for adhesion. I use  a dupont plastic cleaner and a dupont adhesion promoter designed for plastic. The promoter is a clear primer. works great! In fact I'm going to try a set of original black hdtp panels and dye them white for the 71. Aftermarket panels suck and require mods that look tacky compared to originals. But, I admit if it's all that's available, then they are an improvement.
Cant kill the mean and ugly. Only the good die young...I plan to be here a while!!

Looks like some good stuff.  I'll probably go for that when I redo mine.  Mine are in pretty good shape except for some minor scratches and the speaker holes.  :swear: I'll probably just put some speakers back in 'em.  Is there something I can do about these scratches?

Just wondering what the correct SEM color code is appropriate for our black E-body interior plastic panels. I see they have tuxedo black, semi gloss black and gloss black.  Anyone have a SEM model #?  Thanks, Ed

HSD,

For the surface scratches or places where the plastic is breaking down I took scotchbrite pads and tried to get all loose stuff off and down to solid plastic.  I did not have any deep scratches.

Total,

I can check on the # for the color coat.

Dan,

Thanks I would appreciate the number just so I make sure I get the right one.  Rev posted a nice picture of the 4 items with all the numbers visible except for the color coat.

Thanks,
Ed

TotalBS, I returned your e-mail but thought I'd post here for other's information.  We used the SEM colorcoat dye.  The numbers on the top of the can were 15013 Landau Black.

Do they have the correct white too?  Someone painted our panels but it's a creamy off-white,  maybe that is correct I don't know.  :dunno:  Problem is the prior owner had a small dog that scratched them vertically  :swear:  Is there a filler for that or are we screwed?

The exterior is Spinnaker White, the interior is all white too except the carpet, dash, and kick panels.

Can't hurt to try it.  You have to clean the panels really well before you apply the dye, so it might look worse before it gets better.  Has it lost it's texture?

Anywhere where I could scratch up chalky plastic I took a scotchbrite pad and scuffed it until I got down to hard plastic,  this resulted in some lost grain pattern along the tops of my front door panels but it doesn't look bad.  If you don't get down to solid plastic you will be able to scratch up the new dye as well.

What sort of pads do you use and where can you get them from.

I got mine from the paint store I got the dye from but I have noticed them at Advance Auto.  I get the red pads which I thin are fine or extra fine.
