Off the wall ? ?
« on: February 15, 2006 - 09:36:52 AM »
I guess this is the right place to post this useless information ? Reading this morings' paper I ran across a couple stories that are interesting in their own right, First on in the sports section a story of an Ohio bowler who bowled a perfect 900 series, amazing ! But it goes on to say this feat has been accomplished a few times before, the last in 2004 by a guy in Minnessota.

Now here is the "weird" one. A couple who previously lost their spouses to cancer also had later attended group sessions with others who had went through this tragic experience. The sessions were held at the same funeral home that handled the respective funerals. Well, these two met in these "help" sessions and they started eventially seeing each other privately. Get this, they decided to get married (not a problem there), BUT this 60's age couple decided to have the wedding ...............Yep, at the funeral home. Now folks that is just too weird. Ohio has some strange people, other than me.  :roflsmiley:

The first 900 series was bowled in 1997, since then it's been done at least 6-7 times. They took weight out of the pins in the late 90's to increase scoring and generate intrest in the sport. Also, the bowling balls used today are so advanced from what was used just several years ago.
Case in point, I'll use myself as an example...I used to bowl quite a bit in the early 90's..carried a mid 190's average, high game was 288, series was 730. I used to bowl at least 2-3 times a week, and I was one of the higher averages in the leagues i was in. Quit bowling around 2000. Came back last year, and only bowl once a week. My average is over 200, have had a 300 and a 290 in two years, and have had 4 series over 750 in that time. At my 202 average, i'm not in the top 5 of my league i'm in. Amazing what new tech equipment and a 2 ounce reduction in pin weight can do.

Thats pretty good 4C!  I mostly bowl now as an excuse to do this:

When the bowling ball becomes the size of a beach ball, then I'll have a chance.  :pullinghair:

Not to change the subject, but have any of you ever gone duck-pin bowling??? It seems to be popular here in a few states in the mid-atlantic region. Small, thinner pins. The ball isn't much bigger than a softball, and has no finger holes. You get 3 balls per frame too. You would think it would be easier than 10 pin, but NO way. The ball can actually fit between the pins, so getting a strike is a real event.  :woohoo:  I love it. Just because I can really whip the ball down there when I get peeved.

Really?
It's a trip. If you break 100, you are darn good. Er... at least you can beat me.   :roflsmiley: There is a place down the road from me. It is all scored by computer. If you dare get a gutter ball on the first ball, the computer heckles you, so everyone around knows how you messed up BIG time.

I've heard of duckpin bowling...it's mostly played around the Baltimore area, isn't it?

I have Mopar names engraved on my bowling balls....Hemi and sixpac right now. My team name I bowl on?   Roadrunners!
