VIN Codes and ID Plate Repros
« on: February 16, 2006 - 12:16:46 AM »
 :nzflag:
Kia ora everyone. I have recently imported a '71 Challenger to New Zealand from Ca.
Question...I have the vin code j23 etc but not the fender tag. Is it possible to find out what the original numbers were using the 10000 day number on the vin? Car is a Hamtrack one.
Would really appreciate some ideas here - thanks in anticipation.

Very cool!  Any pictures?

To remake the fender tag you need the build sheet.  many times there is a few in the car.  Look under the seats, behind the glove box, under the carpet and so on.  Good luck and welcome!
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Broadcast sheet dude, build sheet is a Chevy term like posi.  :nono:

 ;)

Did you get a broadcast sheet with it? If not you may be out of luck. My 1971 records are very limited, but if you post the VIN I can check my files for you and see if I know anything about it.

T/Ake care,
Barry

Thanks Cody. I'll take a look but I fear that the car has undergone a bit of a restoration and I reckon the build sheets are missing. I'm not too good at the picture stuff but here's one of the car before it left California.

Here is a list of places to look for broadcast sheets;

Taped to the back side / top of the glove box insert.
Under the front bucket seats in the springs
Inside the bucket seat backs
Under the rear seat bottom
In the rear seat back.
Under the package tray(speaker shelf)
Under the carpet

You will never know if any are there for sure unless you look.

best of luck,
Barry

Ooohh, so close.
I have some prior owner history on a JH23N1B four VINs after yours, but nothing on your car, sorry.

Best of luck on the broadcast sheet search!

I know you were just given me a hard time for fun!  It's all good!  I mess that one up all the time... still will.

Dodge uses a build sheet (with the vipers now).  They go inside a plastic bag called a Travelers Pack and they KEEP them. They do not stay in the car when finished.  I got mine for my 2002 viper!  I had a employee grab it when the car was finished being built.  It has the built sheet, dyno test, winshield leak test, shim report and a bunch of other cool data!

I'll try harded to call it a broadcast sheet... because you are right and that is the correct name for the e-bodies!!!!!  :clapping:

:working: :banghead: I have the same problem; I stripped the car down to a skeleton and have found no build sheet all I have is a VIN tag number and no fender tag, this is a problem that I have tried to resolve with no luck I tried GALEN and he told me to find out the dealership where the car was sold out of originally which I did but the dealership does not exist anymore. Any help would be great. I will try to post some photos of what is left of car soon. Thanks in advance!
