Or if you hate the color on a rare piece of carage such as my 68 was brown on brown, and no way am i having two cars of that color. Plus the 68 is a 383 4spd Formula S, a rare piece of history. Really a color change will not affect its value, But it is all in the eye of the beholder and me being the beholder screw it new colors!!! :cooldancing:  :bananasmi

Every car is different, has different history, and each one requires a different amount of restoration to bring it back to stock.  Some are already there, and some need everything.  If you pick up a great car that has already been heavily modded, then it wouldn't make prudent stock restoration. If, on the other hand, you picked up a nearly stock car, it might not be the best car to modify. Some cars make better candidates for modding, and some cars make better candidates to return to or remain stock. It just depends on what you begin with, and where you want to go with it.   :cooldancing:    ...Oldschool

A good way to have a totally different look if you get bored in your stock restored Mopar is to pick up a set of  aftermarket rims and tires. Maybe some trick 17" or 18" rims, maybe some old school Centerlines, Torque thrusts, Cragars, Slot mags etc. Or maybe some pizza cutters in the front and some fattys out back (without modifying anything of course) so you can have that Racer look when you want it. Twenty lug nuts and your car gets a totally different look.
Or if your like me, maybe pick up some widened rallye wheels or magnum 500's and get that look when you want a change.

Stock is nice. maybe change the rims. I am not one into spending ten times the price for an original piece that I can get repro. But I don't have a hemi cuda etc. I love the e bodies the way they are,but some mods look good. My 2cenys

I am probably in the minority, especially being a young guy (25), but I like cars that are bone stock.  Even if the car isn't super rare, I like everything on the car to at least have been a factory option, this way it is at least stock appearing.

My opion...
What I'm planning on, actually, if it was AVAILABLE at the time, it's an option.  My 318 auto car is probably going to end up a 360/4 speed, but it was available at the time, so *shrug*.

Might upgrade the brakes, stopping is a little more important to me then it must have been back then.  Don't need to be  :22yikes: ->  :bricks1: -> :angelwings: hehe

Stock is boring.  My car will eventually be getting an updated suspension (I plan on concentrating on the handling of the car, rather than just the straightline speed), an complete engine buildup, and the interior will be chanced from bench/column shift to buckets/console shift.  Color will stay the same, though.  Although, I will add a vinyl top.

I voted for "Stock looking in and out but gotta mod the performance"

I built my Challenger to appear stock which it does from in and out but she has a few nice modern touches.
Modern sound systems that are tucked away nicely, headers/exhaust/muffler, Viscus fan package, electric dizzy, performance alternator, bigger rims/tyres, underside protection, new shocks, sound deadener everywhere....etc

I see it as restoring the car to a new standard, eliminating factory bugs, because, lets face it, Ma MoPar was rough in a lot of places like interior work and some on the exterior. They wanted big engines out the door - fast.
They were able to do this but our cars suffered a little in terms of craftsman ship.....

I can appricate any car stock or not as long as it gets driven.  :bigshades:

All that said...there's something special looking about a car that's 100% stock appearing...
color, every emblem, etc. etc. correct. When you see it you just know it's right, especially if you were around to see them new bone stock. Brings back memories ya know?.... :2cents:

Actually, I dont ever recall a car from "back in the day" being "stock"....LOL.

First thing we did was change the wheels to some mags, pull the exhaust manifolds and install headers and a loud exhaust...carbs and intake manifold changes also.

Stock in & out, but Mod the performance a bit.

Just too damn easy to really "wake things up" motorwise by paying attention without altering appearances too much, so why not do it right ?

Really "emulate" the musclecar thing.

Sad to note, many supposedly "concours" restorations are "Dawgs" engine/performance wise, seems the owners didn't pay as close attention "internal of the engine" as they did to the "hose clamps".

Not their fault really, for years I watched supposed "resto" factory HP motors get rebuilt with crappy comp. dist. Pistons and RV cams, because the owners figured it should cost the same as a rebuild for the motorhome motor !
Can we say "TERDS" in a "Wolfs Clothing" !    ARRRGGGGHHHHH !

When I redid my 73 (it was 100% original!) I did away with the vinyl insets! had to out, here in california the summer sun sure frys you so I put valore insets  in instead and don't regret it one bit! while I was at it I changed the color to black the interior is white so I also changed the visors! I figured the outside of the car is black so I might as well bring a little of that black inside!! it is not stock but it is my car and I like it that way!!  :woohoo: everything else is stock on that one! now my 71 has a lot of "stock" options added! with that one I agree with the person who said if it was stock for that year it could be added! so we did! we added every option that we could get our hands on! and I love them all! I figure if it is your car do what you want!! you only live once so you might as well enjoy it! right?

Have you seen the new April 06 Hot Rod Mag? It has a thoroughly modified Cuda on the cover.  Awesome craftsmanship: drivetrain, suspension and paint is top notch but IMO they went too far with the custom shaker, wheels and interior.

I guess I'm a "12%er" pure stock. It has been quite a challenge researching the correct factory assembly methods and trying to bring it back to the "as delivered" look of October '69. Met some really great knowlegeable people, learned the fundamentals of networking, again, and most importantly, made some lifelong friendships in the process. The car's not finished and probably never will get to the point where I stop trying to improve on what's been done, but it's fun to drive and during decent weather its gets driven a bunch!  :woohoo:
