    VANISHING POINT challenger specs

    what is needed to replicate the vp chally like interior,engine combo(im pretty sure its a 440-6pack),tire and rim combo,paint etc. much appreciated. p.s. i know that 6-pack cars came with f60/15 polyglasses but what would that be in radials?

    No six packs as far as I can see....they were 440-4 bbl Magnum 4spds. One or two cars were 383 automatics, used for camera cars.

    White exterior, all black vinyl interior, no vinyl top or stripes. Rally dash. Hood has either 383 Magnum or 440 Magnum badge. Maybe no console?  :dunno:

     If it was, there was no badging to state that. I believe it was a 440, but it got more gas mileage than I could ever dream of.  :lol:

    don't forget the Houndstooth interior!  The original had a sideview mirror that was kinda flat and square IIRC.  the 'remake' car had painted '70 mirrors on both sides (until the passenger side was smacked off driving thru the warehouse) and since they used a '69 Charger for the underhood shot, the Hemi had a incorrect-for-1970 chrome Hemi-head.

    id probably go with the hemi version as a 440 looks kinda plain if its not with a 6-pack

    It was "presumed" supercharged. Kowalski mentioned it was "hopped" up to over 160mph so you could take that anyway, 3:05 gears or some slight engine work. As mentioned 440 Magnums were used for the original (and best) and the remake was depicted as a HEMI but were also 440/383 engine cars. 383 auto car was used in the original as a stunt car and also to tow the Camaro into the bulldozers. Lots of little errors in the original, leaving an auto in one piece of film (hear it changing gears) and in one part seeing Kowalski pull up at the nude lady batch and putting the car into park......on a column shift!

    There use to be fantastic Vanishing Point site with replicas of cars but it has since been closed because the sites owner who had a replica lost his hearing so he sold his car and had no need for the site.
    Plenty of useful info and around about 10 70 Challenger replicas from 340 cars to HEMI's.

    Nothing I saw was bang on correct spec, mirror, rims, paint, interior they all had something non-correct.

    yea cause in the second one. he messed up the oil pan. and they were able to get a new one real quick. must be nice. lol.

    In the origonal they used 4 440-4 speeds and 1 383 auto.

    The 383 auto is the one they mounted the cameras on, and (as NZ said) also used it to tow the camaro into the bulldozers.

      "With the motor and transmission out, we were prepared for the car to go
    end over end, but it stuck into the bulldozers, which was a better effect.
    The effects man loaded the Camaro's front-end with explosives to go off on
    impact, and if I had lost control and gone into the ditch and really hit
    something hard, it would have exploded there.  The director set the
    bulldozers about five to six inches apart, just enough to get my cable
    through.  He asked me what the point of no return was, and I said 'about
    two seconds after you say 'action'.  Once I go it's all the way.  I don't
    have anything to stop the Camaro except those bulldozers!"
      "We towed the Camaro with the fifth car, the 383 automatic.  I used that
    one because if you miss a gear and your line goes slack you lose the car.
    I'd rather use an automatic than risk a chance of losing the car.  That
    383 was a good running car.  In fact, it would probably run just as fast
    as that 440."

    NZ, altho pure speculation on my part, I drew the conclusion based on the snippet of conversation

    Granted, mere interpretation, but with reason.  PERHAPS this is why Kowalski hadda deliver it, rather than than it showing up to the local dealership on the back of a delivery truck with the rest of 'em(?)  It was customized with engine mod's by the guys who Kowalski worked for(?)

    Again, mere speculation open for interpretation and conjecture...but it is one of many plausabilities.

    BTW...I meant to ask if the hoodpins came factory on your VP lookalike?
