Under Rocker Panel Paint?
« on: February 20, 2006 - 10:06:07 AM »
I have heard that originally, the body from the middle of the rocker panel molding and down was painted black.  Is this true?  Does anyone have any pics of this?

The black was painted before the car color was painted.

I wonder if the 72s were also done this way as they had the same full length rocker mouldings as opposed to the shorter 73 and 74s.  I just d/a ed down my 74 last week and the rockers were not blacked out on that car.

I thought this was only on cars with the Billboards stripes, not all 71 Cudas.

My 71 is a non-billboard car with original paint and it has the below moulding
black out. It appears to be painted black AFTER the body color. I will post
pics when I get home. Jeff

Hi, In my post this morning I was not correct.  Upon further review I scrapped
the paint off on both sides of the line and there is definately black UNDER the y9
and only primer under the black. So what FY1 RT SE said is correct, the black
was there first. I took some pics but they are hard to see whats going on because
I put some rusty metal Rustolem over the bottom of the fenders and rocker panels
to slow the surface rust down until I had time to deal with it. I think the masking
line shows thru enough to get an idea what they did. Jeff
