New to body/paint work
« on: February 21, 2006 - 01:25:34 PM »
I sure hope someone has a few minutes to help explain in maybe a  step-by-step format the processes taken when painting a car. I have never so much as held a spraygun and have been reading a bunch of selfhelp books on painting but all they seem to have done is prove how much I really don't know. For example: When is it necessary to use a sealer before painting or do you just paint directly over the primer? What kind of bondo do I use for just smoothing out dings? Do you have to apply bondo onto bare metal or will it stick to paint? I've heard of people using Comet to clean the body surface before painting, sounds pretty wacky to me though.
Thanks

It`ll take more than a few minutes as slow as I type and there are a lot steps to explain.Let`s take one step at a time-what condition is the body and paint in on the car you are working on?Are there any rust or dents, are you stripping the car down to a shell in bare metal or just a decent repaint?

Go to http://www.paintucation.com/ and get the video series. He also has a forum, but trust me, watch the videos first. It explains much more than any can post in a forum reply. There are also e-books on the topic, but with video, you get to see what people are saying.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.
