Hood Emblems Question
« on: February 21, 2006 - 06:53:34 PM »
Does anyone have the factory templete/installation measurements to install the D-O-D-G-E emblems on the front area of a Challenger hood. I've seen the diagrams for the rear trunk emblem installation measurements on this site, which I copied.

I don't want to do it by eye, I would  much prefer to have the factory measurements of the length of space between each letter and the distance from the front of the hood.

Also, if there might one for the 71 Challenger script emblem that goes below the body line.....not like the 70 models that went above the line.

I wish I knew who posted the previous factory diagram on the site, I'm hoping that person or someone else might know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to make sure the emblems go on right once the car is painted.

Thanks guys!!

I do not have anything showing the hood emblem locations.

This shows the fender script locations though, use the "F" series for 1970 and "G" series for 1971;

I should be able to get the hood off my 70 however, I'm wondering if these nice engineering illustrations that keep getting posted are available as a whole anywhere.

Also, back to the original question, the DODGE emblems spelled out on the hood were not available in '71.

OK, here are some pictures (if you have a 70).

I included templateW.jpg which is two full sheets of paper when printed (actually more since my margin drawing by hand was 0") that hopefully should give you what you want if you can print and piece it together.

If you can't get it to print OK, I'd be willing to mail it to you just contact me through my user info and promise to mail it back.  I made some edits to hopefully make the numbers clearer since my handwritting sucks.

Good luck, let me know if you need anything else.

I was asked for these again so reposting the expired pictures.

As you can see, the underside of the hood is cut out to accomidate these letters on my October 69 built cars hood.

If you are asking me, I'm not sure on the years other than 1970.  The guy that asked me is working on a 74 and I know I have seen them on later years.

The 1971 R/Ts had at least two different hood decal options with either the big R/T or the reversed R/T right where the D O D G E letters would be.  I looked through my pictures and I did find a 1971 with a lettered hood but it was flat and the shaker hoods have the Dodge tri-star (or whatever it is called) emblem there too so maybe 1971's didn't have it.

All years had the DODGE letters.  Some hood options in 70/71 didn't get them.(shaker and T/A hoods)

I can't recall seeing a '71 with the DODGE letters on the hood and in the grille.

This is one thing I dont like about car shows ... you never can get a great pic of a car ... the dang hoods are always open'.
But this 71 I got a rear shot of last year ... and you can see the DODGE on the hood

The other thing is you never know what an owner has added to changed on their car either.

Interestingly enough, this car may not be an R/T which should have R/T at the end of the side stripes and possibly on the hood too.  I do see it has the side scoops and blacked out rear but is it a real R/T or not?

For the cars with hoods up, you can look in that underneath area and see if they have letters poking through and that is what I saw on the flat hood picture.

I suspect you could add non R/T options to a challenger like you could a barracuda and maybe those are the 71 performance hoods that had the letters or this hood is off a different year or the owner added them - who knows...

Somebody said they all have them and he is probably right but I'll be looking closer for it at shows and my 71 with the R/T lettered hood does not have them.
