How does this quarter look?
« on: February 24, 2006 - 01:27:21 AM »
Need some help on the pass. quarter. :working:

This car was involved in some sort of incident in the late 70's to early 80's.  The passinger side quarter was replaced with a factory new one.  You can see the crappy pound out job they did under the wheel housing (3rd pic).  Anyway, I was thinking of replacing this quarter again but right now it only needs the lower portion on both sides and everything else is ok.  It just doesn't look great!

You can see in the pictures that the body line is ALMOST LOST over the wheel housing and there is a little dent in the same spot.  Can the body line be fix and if so what would be the best body tool or spoon to get back there and reach it?  Will trying to fix the body line damage the primer that is on the car already?

This is my first restoration and I'm not sure I can do much better trying to hang a new quarter anyway!  Would you guys just live with it?

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Is that clean metal (no filler) under that primer? If so, I would hammer and dolly the lower sections into shape and go from there.

The body line looks salvagable. You may want to use a heel dolly and hammer off the dolly to enhance that crease. When you get to the filler stage, use masking tape once above the line and work your filler with a block. Then put the tape below the line and work your filler with a block. You'll get a uniform body line all the way down the quarter.

Remember, there's no guarentee that your replacement quarter will have a much better body line when all is said and done!

Did you spray the primer or was it on before you got it?  If you didn't spray id check with a magnet or might have to sand some of that off to see if you have a buncha bondo there.  If it was in an accident and they pounded some of it out, id check for bondo pushed through the quarter from the inside of the trunk.

Spooon (with one less o) is a body tool.  For some reason everytime you type it (when it's spelled right) changes it to sthingy!  :pullinghair: Try it!  Really, TRY IT!

Any MODS care to help me on this one?

Been looking at those body lines for a while now, because mine faded a bit over the wheel wells to, I may be wrong here but I see it on all 4 fenders & all 4 quarters (both my cars) degree is a tad different on each but definatly crisper front & rear of all wheel wells, may be a natural occurance  :dunno:  But it seems weird that they all have it, may have something to do with forming the wheel lip.
Anyone know for sure? Rich.
