I would not think that VIN stamping is correct as they should be in a row and evenly spaced.

I agree, but with the exception of dealer warrenty work, I've seen a couple where the "restamp" was not the neatest in the world. Could this be a possibility?

I don't think any dealer would have restamped a motor back in the day.

Not even when the short block had to be replaced or another new engine? Wouldn't they (either) need the vin no. stamped to match the title? Just curious because I've head of and have seen what were supposed to be replacement blocks/engines that were restamped...........? In fact the 360 I rebuilt to put in the Chally was such an engine, and the guy had the paperwork to show that it had been replaced six months after he bought the car.? Well, either way the state accepted the "documentation" when I took it for inspection and gave me a title, lol.

Never heard of any of that before.  ??  What was wrong with the VIN# matching the hidden body VIN's. Engines get replaced all the time, bodies don't.

Like I said, I'm not sure what it is all about,...............except that replacement blocks/motors while the car was still under factory warrenty were stamped with the same vin as the orginal block...........? All I know is the 360 I purchased to put in the Chally was a replacement motor in the car it came from, and the guy I bought it from had paperwork from the dealer where this was done. Now,..........after the warrenty has expired I suppose it would be classified just as you call it, another replacement engine. I guess if this is or was done under warrenty coverage, my thought was that when the dealer "stamped" the new block it would not necessarily be done as "neatly" as the factoy stamping?  Hey it was just a thought, I'm old, not so bright, and got a piece of paper from 1978 that may not be legit, but I got my title to replace the salvage title.

My apologies for our thread highjack, but it orginated from the block pic.  :roflsmiley:

Galen Govier investigated this for me and found out that it is a factory original Motor . Much to my surprise  but i'm very releaved  now .  It's now documented at GTS .  I recieved his letter yesterday  stating :   You have a numbers matching block, although the font is abnormal it is typical of a factory stamping.
