One of my cars is getting a 440
« on: February 25, 2006 - 08:40:17 PM »
:woo: One of my cars will be getting a 440. Went down to southern Maryland and found one.

Took the purple Challenger out today. Wow what a ride. It ran great 150+ mile round trip.

Anyway, a guy from work took me down to see an old car with a big block. In a 77 New Yorker found a 440.

At least I think thats what it was. The car looked in rough shape. But it started right up. A little top end noise, but nothing

serious. Engine and trans for $500. I just could not pass it up. Put $100 down, pickup next weekend. After the guy pulls it.

This is me now.  :bananasmi    Dave

Thanks. Now I got to decide which car to put it in.  :pullinghair:

I'm thinking leave the purple car alone, and get back to my orange one.  :dunno:

Yeah definatly check it out before you stick it in one of your cars, you heard it run so that is a good sign. If you dont want to do a total rebuild, then definatly get a set of close chamber heads and a thin head gasket to bump up the CR. Other than that enjoy your new engine

I agree about the compression.  Those pistons are 1/8 inch down the bore.  7.9-8.1 compression.  Not much for a cam to help with.

Mike thats where I think it will go. But the orange car was always going to be a street car.
Now I don't know, maybe your on to something.

Im really thinking now!  :burnout:

I will let you all know next weekend, after I pick it up.

But this is the home I think it belongs in.
