4cruzin Engine buildup
« on: March 02, 2006 - 09:11:33 PM »
So I'm puttin' together a little motor for the hardtop and this is the intake I want to use but I'm not sure on hood clearance??  This will be sitting on a 71 440.

Dude, Looks freakin sweet man. It should fit under the hood you might need a drop base for the air cleaner. Hopefully I will be posting pics like that soon. I am counting down the days until I leave to pick up the '68  :droolingbounce:

The 440 in my car is sporting a holley street dominator intake (taller than stock) and wearing a holley spreadbore doublepumper, and I had to eliminate the carb spacer from the setup to get the factory dual snorkel ac to not rub on the hood.      just have a 3/8 inch gasket only

That indy looks a mite taller than my sd.    agree that you should investigate a dropbase ac if you are going to run a carb.

I sold the other one to LB and then found this one.  The other was a 76 motor and this is a 71!  Gonna work great!

fuel inject it & just run a very thin Throttle body to get hood clearance

Easy for you to say but I know nothing about fuel injection.  Sound like a great idea and I would love to do it and bring this car into the 21 century but . . . .  :pullinghair:

Not what I want to hear . . . I will consider a different intake if that is the case!

4C,
Can you give me an idea how tall the intake is? Do you want a stock looking airfilter? If not, I went with a K&N, with a drop base. I think it looks pretty good. I can take a picture this weekend if you want to see it.  :picture:

Methinks, your carburetor, may be getting, "real friendly with your hood". Ever thought about a 1 pc., "lift-off" style 6 pk hood ?
